Batman & GB were the first 2 cassettes that i bought back in the 80s.
The D&P era was the moment when i started to buy the Greatest Hits/ B-Sides album and all the other albums afterwards until now.

what song or moment made you a fan?
... on first listen 'P*Control' made me a instant enthusiast / fan / fam ( a co*worker that I had a HUGE crush on, she was listenin' to the album and I asked to borrow it and I was in ' Whoa ' mode ).
How long have you been a fan?
been a enthusiast of P's since Emancipation Era ( I like to call it ) 1996
Why you love Prince?
I love the diversity in the music, the live performances and his music feels like the sound-track to my life. Meaning I can pick a song that will explain how I feel at that moment ( time ).
Have you ever wavered?
... not since 1996 no
You know kind of a summary of your Prince journey so far!
Met Prince at the 3121 Las Vegas Jazz Cuisine ( after-show ), worked the Super Bowl for Prince, that within' it self is a GREAT journey Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

what song or moment made you a fan? Answered in my earlier post How long have you been a fan? since 1991 so 20.5 years, but there was an off period of 7 years, so really only 13 and a half years Why you love prince? Because he is funky, his music is amazing and he is a supremely talented individual. I just also really love his whole sound Have you ever wavered? Yes there was a period after I finished undergrad studies in late 1997, my Mum got cancer and I was coming out, I kind of forgot about him and music in general. For the next few years my life was hectic and it was only in 2005 when I had a new home in Christchurch and heard about Prince's hurricane Katrina song, I was back into him, I got all my stuff out of storage and my old Prince music was back. A few weeks later I discovered the org. I have not looked back. You know kind of a summary of your prince journey so far! Funky and a crazy ride, I pretty much missed his career highlights of the 1980s, but just enjoyed the ride, every day I discover something new about him. My interest has also been further revitalised by my recent trip to see one of his concerts, seeing him live was really a culmination of my desires as a fan.
Prince has always fascinated me, and hopefully he will do so for years to come. Even at the age of 36 I still seem to have a teenage like devotion to him. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I wanna be your lover..... As a little kid I didn't understand why or how he could be my mother and my sister too since he was a boy, but I have been lovin' his music all the while.

My older sister bought 1999 and it was the first time i heard 'music'. Before then I'd heard songs but it was the first time i heard the parts... guitars, keyboards working with drums and bass and vocals, you know... how it all went together. Purple Rain was the first album I ever bought with my own money and that was it, I was hooked and knew what I wanted to do.... music.
I've been a fan non-stop but I don't get into his post 'symbol' stuff. Don't care, enough great stuff from prior to keep me hooked. I still buy everything he releases but the last few have only had one listen and thought it's not for me. 3121 still gets a listen every few months but Purple Rain is at least weekly. may display symptoms of sarcasm

Song/moment - "Gett Off," assless pants, I was in the theater, behind the concessions stand with my brother. Coca-cola was splattering everywhere because the college kids weren't paying attention to the soda machine and were talking in disbelief and mirth about what happened, and I was there listening, going "whaaat?? that's sooo bizarre and gross... I LOVE IT!" How long - Since album. Why - he is all about odd juxtapositions, on both the micro and the macro level, in his music and in his persona. Wavered - not wavered, but completely stopped listening to him or knowing anything about him as I started to have my own life toward the end of the 90s. Now that I'm a mom, I stopped having my own life ( ) so I got back into P after seeing him on George Lopez.

Good question. I can remember being a young fella (10 I think) and hearing a song on Australia's "Rage" music show on NYE (wasn't 1983 by the way). I knew I liked it immediately and it was none other than "1999". From there, I asked for the double cassette verison of the album and then it wasn't long before the Batman period rolled around and I was forever hooked on the guitar heavy stuff of his especially. I guess as they say....the rest is history. In reply to have I wavered..sure...but never to the point of not listening at all. I guess there hasn't been a period longer than say a week or 2 that I haven't listened to at least a few tracks in my 26 yrs of fandom.

Little red corvett did it for me but once i heard I will die 4 u in the movie i was hooked!!! I grew up listening to all his music as im the youngest and my brothers were 17 and 16 years older than me!! I was lucky enough to see him twice recently in concert and fell in awe once again of his amazing talent and skills! What i love the most is discovering songs i have either forgotten about or had not really listned to b4! He always seems to really make me listen and feel the music! Ill never beat u

I worked with someone that used to play some of his albums while we cleaned up after the shop was shut. Then they played the Purple Rain movie on TV and I was realised I needed to pay attention to this guy

Discovered Prince with 1999 and Little Red Corvette, but did't become a fan until When Doves Cry in 1984. Wavered greatly after Emancipation. TRUE BLUE

LRC and 1999 - those songs back in february 1983.
Those songs were glowing h-o-t back then,
not cold like the past many Prince songs and albums... Prince 4Ever.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I was blushing and smiling at the same time wondering what is this? Whatever it was, I knew I loved it!!

Well, I bought the 45 soft and wet, loved it, then i bought the Prince album, I want to be your lover and all those songs, I really liked them alot, but then I bought "Dirty Mind" and WOW, that knocked it outta the park for me. I played that whole album from beginning to end nonstop over and over and over again...so i guess that's my answer, that whole album is as one, still is, and I still listen to it, oh and then Controversy came out, OMG, loved that too, oh and then, ......and on and on and on and on ya don't stop..........you never stop when your a true funk soldier....... thanks for asking....

I've liked Prince since the Controversy album came out, but it wasn't till a girl I knew gave me a tape to listen to and said, listen to this song..... "that's how I feel about you".
It was The Beautiful Ones.
It blew my mind, and haven't recovered since.

1999 on the radio got me curious, then along came the Purple rain era and i guess i was too young to realise what a big deal it was. Probably Kiss turned me into a fan, and then i remember my brothers friend came over with the SOTT album and that’s when i lost it.
If i was teetering after SOTT, then the Lovesexy album turned me into a junkie. I have, on occasion, over the years tried to stop listening but the ensuing physiologic manifestations have never been good.
Prince may have too many hits but his music has given me too many issues !

I watched a Prince documentary in 1989. I had been vaguely aware of his music before but it hadn't really gripped me. But after watching that documentary I was still humming Little Red Corvette the following day. So I decided to buy 1999. It was actually Something in the water does not compute that really got me hooked. It was so unlike anything else I had heard. I didn't like it that much at first but it really intrigued me. So I bought Parade, Purple Rain, ATWIAD and a whole new world of music opened up with every new album
And that's what I like about him really: the diversity. With most other albums I bought it was just "nice, next" but with Prince every album was a new discovery. I couldn't hear them as background music, I really had to actively listen to them. I also like his sense of humor. It somehow clicks. Maybe it's because I'm a gemini, too.
I haven't really wavered. But I never rushed out to buy each new album immediately after it was released. I kind of reserved buying albums for special occasion, as a treat. And for some years I just kind of forgot. Recently I got back into him more again. Mainly because something happened in my life that took me back to the time when I first got into him. And also because I've been going through some difficult times. And his music really has helped me through that. Don't know what I'd do without him. There isn't anybody else who even comes close.

Listening to the "1999" album through headphones one day, hearing all the stuff happening in each song, and remarking to myself "This guy is the black Sprinsteen!".

I was a fan from I Wanna Be Your Lover, but the big moment came later. I was sitting on the floor reading the jacket of 'What Time Is It?' (which I could not stop playing) and my big brother dropped the bomb on me:
"Jamie Starr is Prince"

The one that sealed it was Let's Go Crazy. ...if u don't like the world u r living in, take a look around, at least u got friends. i can really relate this this one because sometimes it feels like being dropped on this planet and being all alone. Take Me with U did it too - like who wouldn't want to go from life to life with someone that was kind and nice and telling another that they r like sheer perfection? But, 4 U also did it, like what are we gonna do with barely having money 4 2? i guess it is easier 2 write songs and poetry than 2 live the perfect life on Earth. ~honey is b-ing 1 with the 1~

I kinda stumbled upon Prince a few years back got Controversy, Sexuality, Darling Nikki, Purple Rain, Kiss, and 1999 on my ipod. Don't know how I remember those being the exact songs but they were. Darling Nikki was the first song of his I heard on my own (I've heard Purple Rain and 1999 all my life) it really fascinated me because I always thought music from the 80's was so clean That's when I got the rest of the songs. I remember playing Controversy and Sexuality over and over non-stop. Those 2 songs were what did it for me. I ended up buying Controversy the album and enjoying every second. I ended up getting at least a new album every week for awhile there.
