Invincible vs Musicology

Hey guys,

So, I was on Twitter and on of my followers asked an utterly grosteque question, asking if Michael Jackson's Invincible or Musicology was the better album than the other. I think the obvious is exactly that, but what do you gus think?

The better argument is Prince's rapping vs the rapping on Invincible. I think Prince wins that too.

Too bad the bland material of the album is too unsettling. If anything, Michael culd've used the money for a better wig if the album would've sold.

Musicology has one good song, the title track, and Invincible has no good songs.

So a narrow win for the Prince album, but only on penalties after 0-0 AET.

That is ridiculous.

Musicology, even not being a Prince highlight, slaughters Vince. Musicology shown how you can make real music with real instruments fresh and mainstream enough without losing it's dignity. Vince shown what computers and 74 producers could do.

Musicology was not only better, but far more important because of this (even more so if you consider distribution).

Now, what if we chose the same year? Vince Vs.......THE RAINBOW CHILDREN! Ha.....Poor Mike.

First, I believe that Invincible was released before Musicology so it's not like they were competing on the charts. And literally Musicology was a more sucessful album right? They call it Prince's comeback album. I've never listened to the full album of Musicology but I've been a Michael fan longer than a Prince one so I know Invincible.

The Lost Children, Threatened, You Are My Life, Speechless, & Butterflies are probabaly some of the better songs on this album, they are my personal favorites at least. You Rock My World was a hit single. Invincible wasn't properly endorsed by his record label though.

(As for anyone who wants to come on this thread and make childish, mean spirited, and completely played out jokes and comments, please get that stick out your a$$ and take it elsewhere. We would like to discuss the music in peace for once although I don't see this lasting long.)

How was Musicology more successful than Invincible when Invincible sold 13 million copies worldwide?? Do you REALLY think Musicology sold even a third of that??

Like I said before I am not that familar with Musicology nor do I know how many copies were sold over it. And I wasn't talking about sales when I said successful, what I meant was how the public received it and how many songs were on the charts. Also I based that off of the fact that a lot of fans seem to highly regard Musicology. Some of Michael's fans don't even know Invincible exists and Michael himself was disappointed in the sales and reception of his album.

All I'm saying is Invincible might have sold just because it was a Michael Jackson album but it didn't have as big a impact as he wanted it to and could have done better. Personally I like the album, I own it but it's not my favorite. Success doesn't just depend on how much an album sells.

Music wise I can't say which one is better just yet.

Why the comparison between these two they're not even from the same year are they - I guess because they were both comeback projects?

Hmmm...retrospectively I'd say both albums were pretty unremarkable compared to their best work.

Invincible:

- unconvincing uptempo songs

- some nice ballads, although very musical like

Musicology

- lots of boring old school rehash

- most succesful track maybe "The Marrying kind/If Eye was the man in your life"

Critically Musicolgoy generally scored 4/5 stars. Invincible 2/5 - some pretty bad reviews. It's one MJ album I don't know. Listened to the single and butterflies - pretty average stuff. I really like the orgainic feel of musicology.

But, yeah - shit threat

Please explain how or why those were "successful" tracks?? They were never released or performed live, so what was so successful about them?

lol MJ's hair from 2000 till his death was SO horrible. It made his appearance worse than it really was. He should of kept it curly. Anyways, Musicology wins, though there r a few gems on Invincible.

Successfull creation is what I meant.

To me they are the most interesting tracks on this record. It doesn't have anything to do with chart sucess or live performances.

Edit: Forgot to add "Reflection". It's less spectacular, but also pretty ok.
