Prince is one of a handful of people, imo, whose live performances usually make their studio recordings classic. After seeing the SOTT* movie, along with 4 Those of You on Valium, I can't imagine these songs any other way except live (except MAYBE Adore). I agree that Slow Love is underrated, but have to disagree with Captain about SOTT. I'll put my headphones on and see if I can pick up on some of the background audio you'll have noticed on my VINYL (lol).
Regarding the 50th year, I mean 50th episode of The P&B Podcast, I don't think there's much to add that hasn't been said before by other people. It sure is great to be able to listen to a group of fellow fans give their opinions on anything to do with Prince. I just think you guys are the cat's pajamas. Btw, PLEASE don't make us wait a month for Part 2!
PS Toejam those snippets sounded good! When Prince gets to Australia and sends word he wants to meet with you, run like hell if you start feeling the least bit protege'ey'.
*I know the movie was cut, edited, lip synched, etc., but it was done from live performances as opposed to studio recordings.

AHHHHH
I love you guys podcast! I will listen to it tomorrow! I just started a playlist on my YouTube channel, where I discuss Prince albums and stuff. You guys were mentioned in my description!, when I talked about "Lotusflow3r" I hope you all don't mind, but I had to give the link! I look forwards to these so anxiously!!
I can't wait for Part 2..Even though I never heard Part 1, I am sure it will be SLAMMING!
Thanks for the podcast! It's Button Therapy, Baby!

Great show as always. Can't wait for part 2. The Captain's contributions oddly remind me of the role I often play in Prince-related conversations with friends -- the contrarian, fond of the quirky, obscure tracks dismissed my everyone else, and sometimes disdainful of songs universally adored by others. I began to think of us as kindred spirits until I heard his opinion of The Ballad of Dorothy Parker. I guess even contrarians can be wrong sometimes...

Thanks Uptowner
TBODP really is a song I have to be in the mood for which is very uncommon for me .. I usually dig a song or I don't no matter what mood I'm in but this one is definitely a weird one...
Mostly I'll hear the first 10 seconds and skip it, but then on the times I let it go I usually catch myself getting into it and thinking it's not that bad .. really....

toejam (and the team),
I must be late to these podcasts, as I've just discovered this feature.
I seriously DIG your group's sense of humour! And the show is ABSOLUTELY brilliant.
Well done, and THANK YOU.

To be honest, I don't really find the Peach and Black Podcasts to be that interesting. However, I still think some of their commentary can be fun to listen to. Just because I don't really enjoy them, does not mean that I'm going to make fun of them. I am probably too much of a student of Prince's music to really learn anything from them, but a few times I have, so I honestly would rather thank them for what they are doing, and will listen to them from time to time, but just because I may not be crazy about them, I don't think they did anything to deserve the negativity.

Ok, listened to some of the SOTT Podcast. It seems like it took an hour to get through the first hour. Did I say an hour? I stand corrected! Ok, it does seem to run a little long, but the observations are very good. This is by far the best one I have listened to. The one guy was spot on about the vinyl sounding better and having more low end in the mix. They lost me when they were not so huge on the title track, but I am actually going to finish listening to this. Great Job!

Captain has really got the knives out for Susan Rogers.
"Sign O' the Times" was featured on the original version of Crystal Ball. It was the last track on side five just after "Forever in My Life." I believe that "U Got the Look" is the only song on Sign 'O' the Times that was not on Crystal Ball.
Truly, vinyl snobs are among the most annoying people on the planet! MC, if I can find a decent cheap copy I will give it a listen but after all of your effusive praise it had darn well better be a revelatory listening experience!
MC, if you want to get technical in your debate about the merits of the vinyl vs. cd tracklists both are inferior, at least regarding the creators original intent. You would need to add the excised tracks from Crystal Ball and listen to all six sides in order to get the impact that Prince originally intended.

Here's a thought, if you are not a fan of the podcast how about avoiding any threads about it? No need to come in here and act like a jerk towards the people behind the podcast who do it on their own time and on their own dime solely for the love of his music.

rialb,
I couldn't agree more; unfortunately, it appears even basic relational intelligence is not everyone's gift.
Ironically, in this particular .Orger's case, their comments consistently reflect poorly on him/her, anyway.
As Bob used to sing, "Who the cap fit...let them wear it".

I do agree, though I'm sure he was probably joking. At least these podcasts have interesting discussions about Prince's music, unlike a lot of the threads that get posted here..
