Agreed!! I mentioned in another thread that I'm stuck in this phase--listening to the rehearsals and shows from this period has me enthralled. Amazing stuff!!

VERY educational too, if you're a musician.

I'm giving it to the Controversy Tour. The 1999 tour comes very close, but Controvery gets the edge due to the guitar heroics of "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad."

chill..prince doesnt like men being front row, makes it hard to sing the ballads

Possibly, i absolutely love the Livesexy 88 show but then again he has done many good tours.

Even the current one looks pretty electrifying judging by the pics.

I've only seen two but from the footage of others I've seen and if I could back in time...I'd defnitely want to see ONA, Vegas & Musicology. Did he do a 3121 tour? Not sure but I prefer that cd to Musicology.

^ I would put ONA as one of my least favourite eras....I couldn't bear Prince in suits, made him look like a boring business man or a JW preacher. I much prefer the way he is back to his exquisite and colourful outfits now!

I think the opposite. I liked him in suits, not that what he wore was of any importance to me, the music on this tour was of a high quality and that to me is all that mattered.

In a way he was a business man on this tour, getting down to the business of playing amazing music, which is what this tour was all about.

I replied to this thread quickly, and without really thinking, but now I have had time to think, the ONA tour really is top of my list.

D&P probably holds a special place for me as it was the first Prince tour I attended, but even with some of the 90's shows I went to, ONA for me is a mile high over any of them.

Out of the tours I never attended personally, I guess the Parade shows and SOTT would have been quite special.

Welcome back by the way. wink

I feel opposite as you did. By 2001-2002, it was time to put away the crazy Elton style drag and look decent. Remember right before he had that Rave blue rubber suit and pig tails as his era-look. Gawd, his clothing throughtout the years has been a detriment to his music/musicianship.

That ONA he and the band were dap!

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, I saw a show on the ONA tour and the 07 PE tour and at Hop Farm and I much preferred these latter shows.

To me the clothes and the dancing are all part of the experience, ONA was way too low key and conventional IMO, i guess also a lot of fans liked that era because he seemed closer to the fans then (well the ones that could afford membership!).

Anyway...thanks, I've been in Thailand and Nepal and so have only occasionally lurked, but i don't post as much now as it's so easy to waste time here and get dragged into petty arguments! lol Good to see u again.

Indeed, I think part of the reason that Prince and band dressed the way they did on the ONA tour was maybe not to be more conventional, but was maybe a move to place the emphasis on the music and away from large show/tour costumes and theatrics.

I'm guessing.

Cool you got to travel, wink

i love the GOLD tour, i think its very glamorous and rebelious..

although this is going to sound very cliche' , the purple rain tour was amazing. so much energy.

but then again you have the dirty mind tour, which is filthy, nasty, loud, prince, its amazing!

gosh, its hard to choose a "best" tour. they are all completely different and unique.

I said Lovesexy in an earlier post, but have to agree that the purple rain tour was amazing as well. The songs performed were arguably his best!

Seriously?! Wow. The ONA show that I saw was the single greatest performance I've seen by any artist. The musicianship was simply sublime.

I'll probably get slaughtered for this, but I've always thought the Lovesexy and SOTT tours looked really corny and cheesy - barring the video for "Glam Slam".

boxed

I always just really really liked the kinda stripped down, elegant quality of the Nude Tour. Plus he gave some of his best performances during that one "She's Always in My Hair", and "Question of U". I remember the first time I saw video footage of those I kinda sat there like : eek . If I could time travel as an adult back to any era to see a show, it'd be that one - barring everything, including the Purple Rain era...

The "Parade" phase though...that might come a very close second.
