His albums with "The Revolution" were some of his best stuff.

His albums with "The New Power Generation" were amongst some of the worst albums ever released by anyone.

The Revolution albums sold millions more copies than anything else in his cannon,he will never sell these numbers again in his lifetime.

The Revolution were dangerous.

The New Power Generation are pussies.

Not true! "Diamonds & Pearls released way after "The Revolution" was disbanded. Sold almost 3 million copies alone & saw 4 hit singles released in the United States . Also the only album that sold mega multi millions was "Purple Rain". Which was a cross promotion tied with a number 1 movie. The rest of the albums "advertised" with The Revolution sold just as much as his post revolution albums that were advertised with the New Power Generation. The Revolution & New Power generation were just names. They still were considered Prince albums boo boo..

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

i applaud slow hand 4 doing that and spread his wings into his catalouge instead of doings songs that "people came 2 hear". i don't know why society always wants 2 hold a musician into a time box yet other entertainers don't get the same label. smdh

hey Rdhull you suprised me a lot with this negative post. Maybe the crowd wanted hits but nobody was dissapointed, people were thrill to see Clapton.Clapton played a tour based on energetic performances,he didn't want to be just a crowd pleaser. What i want to say if Prince plays killer concer with only one or two hits he could pull it off

W2A has had lots of deep cut hits etc.

Yall are just never happy with the ratio.

Hell, he even went into the vault for some primo bootleg material and even though yes he retread the wheels, there's no credit ever given for unicorns.

It wouldnt even really matter or be worth commenting on for me but when the criticism comes from musically educated/ Prince hisotrians as yourself and some others, it's just kind of frustrasting. Now if some clown ass that is a semi troll would continually make these comments, then who really gives a fuck? I guess what Im saying is that I feel that you really know better. deep cuts? is it kind of funny that over a year later, prince still has only played welcome 2 america, black muse only ONCE no matter where this tour has gone?

the other thing that has been lacking on this tour is contuniuty of these deep cuts but yet every concert has the same section of songs nightly.

Deep cuts?? What, pray tell, do you define as a deep cut? There's been little to no deep cuts on the Welcome 2... tours. I dunno what you're talking about. Did you even go to a Welcome 2... show? I did. No deep cuts to be had. In fact, that's been the biggest god damn gripe about this lame ass tour! It's just another greatest hits tour with no album to support and it doesn't cover any ground he didn't cover in 97 with the Jam of the Year tour.

Primo bootleg material? No he didn't release any primo bootleg material. He fashioned old songs he knew were fan favorites. Extralovable was well-received here on the org despite the fact it's rerecorded. Large Room With No Light was done in 2009 and was kinda-okay-sorta well received. I dunno what primo bootleg material you're referring to cuz as of yet nothing he has released other than Crystal Ball could ever constitute as primo bootleg material.

His MAIN problem?

His hits of course.

If he didn't have those, or wouldn't play those, at this point in time he would work differently to sell his tickets and CD's.

Not that what he does now is bad, but it's a wholly different situation without the hits.

i honestly can't believe how overrated the revolution are by some fans. they were not a band in the strictest sense, they his backing band!!! sure, they influenced and contributed to his music in some ways but it was always his ship. individually they were all unremarkable musicians employed by prince as props because of their diversity and because they made him stand out even more. only with a backing band could he classify himself as a bandleader and bonafide rock frontman. they did have great on-stage chemistry but i believe that's because prince ran such a tight ship, much like JB. i'm pretty confident that if not for prince we would not even know who these individuals are. besides, i prefer the dez-era band. W&L's contribution is so grossly overrated it's laughable.

Thank god someone else agrees with me. Revolution are vastly overrated. They did not even co write the majority of his music and yet the revolution fanboys act like they did

Count me in as well. In the 80's it wasn't like OMG I can't wait to see Prince and The Revolution or buy a new Prince and The Revolution album, nope it was just Prince. They did Not make Prince in the 80's, he made himself (but just like every artist out there, of course he had contributors). The Revoltion, just like NPG, Muses, Dancers, Singers were just apart of his plan/image/marketing nothing more, nothing less

Now the ones played in full etc. The Love We make, Large Room No Light, The triple threat concerts, the added deep cut songs added to last years and this years W2A shows. Don't act like he has been only playing Controversy and Purple Rain without a sprinkling of album cuts, one offs, and unreleased songs through the past 5 years.

The Revolution were not virtuosos but they had big stage presence and of course they Did contribute to Prince music. Matt Fink composed the main riff of Dirty Mind,he also invented those mpls synth sounds.Wendy and Lisa added harmonic textures and Bobby Z was uncredited pioneer of making Linn work live.Dez had a big stage presence. They are not overrated.i love the latter formations of his bands but nothing can fuck with the Revolution and what showcase how badass that band is their easy transition from electro rock band of Purple Rain to a soul revue during Parade in less then one year

but the songs ur mentioning aren't played on a every concert basis. playing them every once in a blue moon or even some of the songs from that 3 concert in one day was back in 2009. it would different if ur saying he did these songs every time out but he's not

You notice he doesn't give any specific examples from the Welcome 2... tours because he can't.

And, you were right on the money, doing a song 3 years ago (once) doesn't mean he's regularly tossing anything into any set list. The setlists have not changed in almost 10 years now, since the ONA tour. It's the same ol familiar tracks shuffled around.

Thirty familiar songs he has played ad nauseum over the past 20 years, mixed and matched. So maybe he does (for example) Cool, Raspberry Beret, a sampler set (with snippets of Adore, Insatiable, and HCUDCMA), Little Red Corvette, and Mountains one night. The next night he will do Purple Rain, Uptown, Let's Go Crazy, a piano segment (with snippets of Call My Name, Beautiful Ones, and Scandalous), and Strange Relationship.

Swapping those 2 nights back and forth over and over does not mean he is varying the setlist. Throwing in one or two left field tracks (like Cool or Strange Relationship) is nice, but says nothing for the other 90 minutes of setlist left.

It is very, very, very clear what some people are talking about in this thread. They want setlists with the majority being NEW MATERIAL or RARE TRACKS being the primary/only focus. Not a special one here and there eclipsed by 8 minute jams on Pass the Peas, Go Go Go chants, and Clap Ya Handz, Stomp Ya Feetz.
