Just listened to the whole show. HOLY SHIT. Did y'all hear him turn "I could never take the place of your man" into a slow, bluesy, mournful rock ballad? Absolutely fucking phenomenal.
Loved Flavor doing "911 Is A Joke" with the NPG too. |

I mean... I went from wanting a concert to wanting an aftershow... Ugh! I want it ALL!!!!
I think I saw some chest hairs poking out from underneath his tunic, nursev. A small consolation...

Well he's gotta show more than that im kinda disappointed in the aftershow-2 hours is just name dropping band members and Old MJ and Rick James songs-not that they aren't classics, but...

Yeah... Not feeling Seal too much either.

Seal can't sing, imo. I felt embarrassed for him when he was on stage with Prince last year. I think Heidi seperated from him a week or so later. Poor Guy.

I know we're talking about two different venues, but Prince killed it in Montruex without any backup singers. It really wouldn't hurt for Shelby to take a brief vacation. Just my

The aftershow was incredible.
The band members came on slowly as DJ Rashida continued doing her thing, and they were each spending a lot of time getting the sound right - it seemed to be a soundcheck of sorts and I think there were problems getting the balance right. I thought it was cool to see John drumming over the top of some of the tracks, or Ida throwing some bass in. Hearing Prince's voice as he intro'd the band from off stage built the excitement.
Shelby and the other girls kept the crowd hyped while techs ran around, signalling to sound guys and trying to get everything sorted. I heard that the venue doesn't normally have live gigs.
Of course none of that build-up is going to work properly on a recording and IMO should probably even be taken out.
Admittedly, yes, we were well and truly ready for things to be kicked up a notch once Prince appeared, but we were also having a great time in amongst it all. I can imagine that sitting on your couch listening to a recording, the chants and hype would drive you mad - but that's not what it's for.
ICNTTPOYM was extraordinary. The whole night was an absolute buzz.
The group I went with (most of which had never seen Shelby live, only on recordings) are all converts now. She and the other girls worked bloody hard that night to keep the energy up and had a lot of fun with us in the process.
Sorry to those that missed out, but nothing beats the live experience.

.. montreux was amazing! prince owns the stage, what possesses him to have shelby out the front screeching like she does? (she don't even look good!) we will never know. another princely mystery! [Edited 5/13/12 18:53pm]
