recognition of Prince In which country do you think Prince is most appreciated, valued and respected as a true artist and musician by the public and the media rather than thinking of/stereotyping him as the eccentric little guy dressed in frilly shirts and obsessed with sex? Although I'm from the UK, I'd have to say either in the Netherlands or Germany, in my experience.
Any thoughts? | |

Well, the Netherlands is known to be tolerant so I think it's a good guess.
We're a little more social here than the capitalist driven US. However, in the US defence, I think due to size, propaganda and competition amongst the what 300 million (?) it means everyone needs to fight for their indivdiualism and it therefore makes them more agressive. It's a cultural thing. Here in NL, Doctors and dentists or elite in society, will ride their bike in the rain to the office. Unheard of in other countries. Most widely appreciated - definitely the US. No question about it. I know the media can be childish and make fun of his height or the eccentricities but that doesn't mean they undervalue him as a musician. Although it seems like he's often perceived as some kind of mythical music-god type of thing in Japan. And I doubt anyone would make fun of his height or his choice of clothes there.

Germany is NOT the most appreciated place for Prince fans. He had a history of sound problems everytime he performed there and German's rudly threw cups and booed the band off.
New York has the best Prince fans hands down! ! ! ! ! !

my guess is either Holland or Denmark.
I would say it used to be Holland back in the big Prince eras...
but, now it has to be Denmark.
Prince is much respected here, and got great press on his tours here in Denmark, 2010 and 2011.
Roskilde Festival and the NPG whatever it was called Festival.
Those were huge. Prince 4Ever. | |
