A really sincere, moving song.

The emotion in his vocals. The beautiful musical arrangment.

Definitely a classic.

One of my absolute favorites from Emancipation, along "FLSMW", "Saviour", "Sex in the Summer", "Sleep Around", "Jam of the Year", and wait for it... his cover of "One of Us."

the studio version would be even better if it had a kick ass guitar solo. imagine if it was on lotusflow3r and got the treatment that other songs on that album got that'd be amazing!

Funny, I was just listening to it yeasterday, and thinking, damn, a guitar solo would be awesome in there! I feel the same way about Satifsied. Needs to go into supersonic overdriven blues territory.

Take it - like Clarence said:

I never liked it at the time, it reminded me vocally of 'Dolphin', but it really is a hidden gem on an album of plastic. Great track

an absolute KILLER

when he did this in SF, i nearly died.. DIED!

its an unbelievable song... buried in emancipation....

THIS IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE of songs by Prince that need to be heard by a larger audience!

but you cant get it unless you get a used copy of emancipation somewhere....

there is a giant of list these kinds of songs... songs that the loyal Prince lovers know and love but the wider general public is unfortunately clueless about.

Like always when this kind of thread comes up:

Lyrically it's pathetic, musically not very interesting (He did better on "Baby, you're a trip").

Probably my all-time favorite track from Emancipation. Magnificent, top to bottom.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

While I disagree with your view on the song, thanks for pointing out the melody's similarity to Baby, You're a Trip. It's an interesting little tidbit but certainly doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the song.

If I had just one prince song on my iPod ..this would be the one. I've worked out to it, cried to it, made love to it...it evokes all the right emotions for all the right reason. The fuckin chorus at the end is other wordly. One of the most effective use of his overdubbed technique on record.

I've always loved it. It might be my favorite from the 1990s. It's the only song Prince has done that actaully uplifts me..
