I've always loved this number. I love his moody power stuff!

I only have one issue with it and I hope this doesn't put you off lol

I can't stop imagining Cliff Richard singing it with a soft focussed video in shiny leather trousers and a billowy red silk shirt. That's when it all goes wrong.

F.ing class really though!

Power like no other. Lovin the organ and guitar at the end cool

Like always when this kind of thread comes up:

Lyrically it's pathetic, musically not very interesting (He did better on "Baby, you're a trip").

Just amazing. One of his best and I only learned of it recently. One of his many best. How can one man have made so much great music?

I loved the fact that Prince played this live (Norway 2010(?))

Always saw it as a stand out track on Emancipation - and live it gives goosebumps........brilliant cool

Just a nomineee?! WTF, I thought I would have won the competition! Anyway, maybe that's exactly why I became a professional musician.

(CRYING LIKE A LITTLE BABY) You've got me! I'm a fucked up musician who would give it all to have written a masterpiece like this just once in his life!

Isn't it funny that Prince fanatics ask for your music whenever their hero gets criticized?! Whereas the competence of people making even bolder statements like "This song is a stone cold classic" isn't questioned at all?! This is just another perfect fan strategy to make their idol look untouchable.

I'm all for people's opinions and everything, but I expect most musicians would give their left nut to put something out like 'The love we make'.

Prince has put out some turds as well as some gems, but I think most would put this in the gems category.

"put down the needle, put down the spoon"; wasn't this in reference to one of his friends?

^ Not sure about that particular lyric, but the song was said to be dedicated to Jonathan Melvoin.

And ironically enough he died from an overdose of heroin.
