talking about the pedals with takumi he said they use the boss ones because they are common items that are easy to replace if you have a problem with them on tour. pop into any guitar shop and you can get what you want. plus if you keep it simple it's easier to setup and keep the sound consistent. if you use fancy gear it's harder to setup and replace. he also mentioned prince programmed his own zoom effects pedal. i think its the 9030 model he used
i just found this photo elsewhere, i think it's one i took for daf at the indigo as i always stood in the same place

those setups show the two different pedal boards he uses. the first was used for the first few aftershows at indigo2, it's his "aftershow" pedals", later on he used the big curved pedal board that he uses at the main shows. they also changed the PA after the first or second weekend aroudn the same time the pedals changed [Edited 4/28/12 15:25pm]

no, i didn't mean that, but from what i gather at times he will hear a sound and want to emulate it. the two pedal boards are just for convenience as usually there is a small stage with less space at aftershows, plus having two lots of kit means the aftershow can get further ahead by getting setup than if they had to wait for everything to come from the main show. the indigo was a residency so there wasn't far to move stuff but there was still a few hours delay between shows, getting things setup and soundchecked every night

Thanks for posting that unique. No disrespect against BOSS pedals because some of them are great. I'm not really crazy about their gain pedals anymore.
It kinda makes sense for him to have replaceable pedals like BOSS since they are worldwide. I always wondered what a "Prince Pedal" would sound like and consist of. I know Digitech has done that for other guitarists. It would be interesting to see BOSS create a special pedal for him.

We hear that all the time about Boss pedals being easy to obtain on tour. Is Prince a bit skint then that he can't afford spare boutique gear? I ain't being funny but as far as lame and excuse go...

but then how many extra of each pedal would you have to take with you? if you have 10 pedals and you want 2 spare then thats 30 pedals to carry about, of which 20 aren't likely to be used. what if you break 3 of one, then you are stuck again
it wasn't also just about being easy to replace, but easy to setup with realiable results. the more complicated the pedals, the more complicated to setup and harder to keep consistant
you know what prince is like, if he wants something he gets it, so if he wanted different pedals he would have them. haven't you heard the story of the gun mic getting left behind and someone having to back to paisley to pick it up and then fly back to LA or wherever to the gig as they wouldn't trust a courier with it? he could have just used another SM58 or something
