I don't care if all he ever does is sing his hits and a few covers. WHY...Just watch part of the Lionel Richie and Country Friends. Don't get me wrong; I like some country music too, but this was too much in the wrong. Didn't mesh well IMHO. Then again, he does owe the IRS $1.1 Million. Now pay up.

This may have been true with Prince circa 1986/87, but have you looked at the lineup on Rave Un2?

Prince has sold out on a few occasions. Sure, all stars sellout at one time or another, so I'm not judging him, but I don't think we can praise Prince for something that isn't really true--he does sell out.

Hell, he seems more about money than music these days to boot.

Vintage Prince stood his ground. Prince in recent years has tried to add other elements, sometimes succeeding and sometimes failing.

you don't stand your ground on 'music' if you refuse to release anymore cds

because people download your music for free or because you can't get some

5 million dollar advance from a record company before you've actually sold

a single unit.

I disagree...Prince has sold out on many occasions. Some were just great publicity moves, like the Superbowl performance, but Diamonds and Pearls was an album made to pay the bills.

Batman was a combination of both sell-out and good publicity (sometimes he get's it just right)

Either way, i ain't mad at him...he needs to pay lots of people.

He let Beyonce perform with him on an awards show and some other shit hopper performed with him when he performed "3121" on another awards show which is even worse. Hell, I'd rather see a redneck like Hank Williams, Jr. on stage with him rather than folks like this.

Well, he's pretty so the crack ho's are no competition for him. There's a lot of street corners out there that he could have tricked himself out on and paid the bills and they still would have been more respectable for a musician to do than perform with a shit hopper. He could have called up Chaka and Natalie and got some of their old tricks' phone numbers.

I love D&P too girl....but....when it first came out, it sounded like the first time that he wasn't trying anything new or different. It sounded like an album made for top 40 radio ie...gotta pay the bills ya'll.

wow, opinions are truly like assholes in that everyone has one. some don't seem to be rooted in any sort of logic though. so help me understand how D&P is a sellout pop album, cause from my vantage point I see this:

Because D & P was commercially successful mean that it was INTENTIONALLY a "pop" record?! I beg to differ. When you open an album with a blatantly "gospel" song (lyricically) like Thunder when religion so SOOO polarizing in this country, that's not a commercial move.

And Get Off was so risque, he risked pop radio not touching that thing. black radio was more receptive cause it was so fon-kay but as the first "single," he took a risk. Cream was the joint that got the pop fans on board, then the title track. But overall, Live 4 Love and Money Don't Matter both have a type of "social commentary" that people aren't checking for with Prince, so all in all D & P is NOT this sellout album that people make it out to be IMO, it just sold well. It had the same diversity of "genres" his albums always have, some songs accessible (radio friendly) others, not so much

You can tell by Prince's promotion of this CD what his intentions were....MTV music awards followed by an entire night at Arsenio's (i'm sure there were other appearances, just can't think of them).

It's no secret that promotion is Prince's very least favorite thing to do.

Cream, Diamonds and Pearls, Insatiable...all radio friendly stuff. Get Off was given the deluxe treatment as well, including maxi-singles.
