The Grand Progression This is a quiet underrated, beautiful song. Especially chorus. Its as if the song says "shhh..quiet now..listen." "Climb in my fur."

It is a tinsel epic.

..and Im glad it wasn't used for G Bridge..I like it best as an outtake if that makes sense. "Climb in my fur."

another reason why he should take some time out for an extensive vault release.

Yes, so long as he leaves them alone and doesn't fiddle with them like a hyperactive hoodlum.

One of my least favorite bootlegs. Perhaps if he redid the vocal it could be decent. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

fuck no..so it can be some overthetop song like he did to Still Would Stand All Time? be quiet controversy99 "Climb in my fur."

I think a more mature and powerful vocal would be good. I'm thinking something like Anna Stesia or The Cross. And why do I gotta be quiet? "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

Because you aren't understanding the nuance of his understated vocal that MAKES the tune. It along with the melody is a quiet power (tm) that is just as strong and forceful as a loud ass Anna Stesia or Cross vocal. Changing the dynamics of the vocal tone would change the song altogether. Im not trying to be rude but i hate having to explain shit like this which is why I have to state 'be quiet' sometimes because its better than saying 'you dont know what the fuck you are talking about.'
It's the same shit some 20-35 year olds think acting like Raspberry Beret and Mountains are better songs than Controversy.

It's the same shit some 20-35 year olds think acting like Raspberry Beret and Mountains is a better song than Controversy. Interesting. I didn't mean the loud part of The Cross. But I'm totally fine with you amd others liking this song. In fact, I'm glad I hopped on this thread. It actually opened my mind a bit too the song. I still don't like it that much, but I just listened to it again and I can see the appeal. There's a little bit of charm to it--just not my cup of tea. Sometimes a little debate is a good thing. It's all because I want you to feel where I'm coming from. "Climb in my fur."

Probably my favourite outtake. Fills me with endless indescribable emotions every time I listen to it. Everything about it is perfect. One of his best songs period and the delivery is monumental too.

Same here. It's not a sad nor a happy emotion... but it is emotional to me. Melancholy and happy at the same time? "Climb in my fur."

To me, it often represents the difficult-to-grasp, spring-time of loving, when you let go of yourself and your ego and realise you can only relish being who you always aspired to be by giving in to love and seeking a new beginning, meeting the future with open arms. It's beautiful, really.

Wow. That's a great description.
the ending flute note sounds feel like spring to me "Climb in my fur."

Seems to me to be influenced by Stevie Wonder's Summer Soft and that plant album he did!
Imagine this on a Innervisions/Talking Book type album - wow! [Edited 4/22/12 1:48am]

Never clicked with this one, despite it's reputation of one of the best out-takes.

Meh. It's okay to me, but I have feeling that if it had been included on GB people would be bitching about it almost as much as they bitch about the title track or "Arms Of Orion".

Yeah, it does seem reminiscent of Secret Life Of Plants. "Climb in my fur."

I feel the same way about the two versions of The Dance. I love the vulnerability of his vocals on The Chocolate Invasion, versus the overwrought scenery chewing of the 3121 version.
And, yes - I love The Grand Progression. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I like the song but do prefer Still Would Stand All Time. For some reason it reminds me of The Beatles Fool on The Hill.

It's unique in that Prince seems to be singing very clearly without any of his normal "Prince" character schticks... in a normal tone and register.
And lyrically, he even says "And if there really is a god"...
indicating healthy doubt! It seems like an honest song from Prince Roger Nelson, not "PRINCE".
Of course he does have that Prince trick of being nasty, by boiling it down to "inside of you" My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

just remembered that prince himself mentions this tune on the 2007 (or was it 2008?) song F.U.N.K.
"well, it might not be The Grand Progression, but it sure is funky. right on"
