I don't really have anything to add...but i can't let the topic go past without saying that it is easily in my top 20 prince songs. it's beautiful. it's amazing and it's kind of the whole reason being like, REALLY into Prince is a worthwhile song...it's sad that a casual fan doesn't get to appreciate this sort of stuff.

i dig the shit out of it. ultimate.

I can make you H.A.P.P.Y

It's unique in that Prince seems to be singing very clearly without any of his normal "Prince" character schticks... in a normal tone and register.

And lyrically, he even says "And if there really is a god"...

indicating healthy doubt! It seems like an honest song from Prince Roger Nelson, not "PRINCE".

Of course he does have that Prince trick of being nasty, by boiling it down to "inside of you"

Interesting prospective

"Climb in my fur."

just remembered that prince himself mentions this tune on the 2007 (or was it 2008?)

song F.U.N.K.

"well, it might not be The Grand Progression,

but it sure is funky. right on"

cool

There's a reason for that

"Climb in my fur."

I love it up until the horrible fake synth orchestra bit at the end. Now if there was a version with Clare Fisher orchestration languishing in the vaults, THAT would be something I'd love to hear.

blah blah blah

It also has a very Vangelis feel (you know, Blade Runner kind of music).

There are some cheesy-sounding synths, but barring that I'd say it's pretty awesome. I think it's a great template for some songwriting.

Careful... I found out the hard way. If you post about how great "The Grand Progression" is, Prince will respond by releasing a forgettable song and include the words "well it may not be The Grand Progression" in the lyrics.

It's the most enthusiastic and energetic song in a long time, but I still think it's largely a bad listen. About a 5/10 for me. TGP on the other hand is more like a 9/10 for me.
