Out of 10

I would give the album a high 7 or a low 8.

It ends on such a downer for me (Positivity just drains me of energy).

Plus the sound on Alphabet Street and some other tracks has this

shot-gun harshness to it that is a bit jarring when I listen to it.

Overall, I like the album alot. But, I just think I never got over

how it was released in the shadow of the brilliant SOTT.

Lovesexy 9 Superb
Positivity 6.5 drains me of energy
Dance on 7.5 Good stuff
Anna Stesia 8 Would be higher if not for the silly 'girls & boys love god above' nonsense.
Glam Slam 8 I like
I wish u heaven 9 One of my favorite Prince tracks
When 2 r in love 7.5 I like it more today than I did back in the day
Alphabet st 7 Meh. It would be better if Cat's rap wasn't on it.
Eye No 6.5 A joyous song, but the falsetta just never sounds right with this track.

Glam Slam is often my favourite moment of Prince genius. Bit hard to rate a perfect album.

For ages I didn't think much of Positivity but after hearing the live versions on a few bootlegs recently dayum I LOVE that song

Every song is great on this album I would only rank WHEN 2 r in Love and I Wish U heaven slightly lower than the rest

From best to worst:

I Wish U Heaven

It’s one of those beautiful Prince songs that can completely stand on its own.

Dance On

Fun and simple with great rhythm guitar

Eye No

Direc and impassioned. It makes Prince sound like a wacko street preacher, but you can’t deny that he really feels what he write about.

Anna Stesia

Nice, moody, and dark without being goofy like the dark songs on the black album.

When 2 R In Love

A great romantic song with sexy lyrics so well constructed that they could pass for high end porn.

Alphabet St.

Fun and funky, but a little vapid.

Lovesexy

Fun and funky, but a little shrill and rough around the edges.

Glam Slam

I love this one, but it sits on the edge of being a good Prince song and a filler track.

Positivity

An bad filler track. It’s not insipid like Free, but it’s still bad.

It's my least favorite of all the 1980s albums..

  1. Anna Stesia
  2. Alphabet St.
  3. Glam Slam
  4. When 2 R In Love
  5. Lovesexy
  6. Dance On
  7. I Wish U Heaven
  8. Positivity
  9. Eye No

I don't hate any of the songs, but the only song I really play often is "Anna Stesia". I definitely think Lovesexy is the weakest album he released in the 1980s.

I enjoy listening to this one; however, I sometimes think that Dance On is out of sync. Don't as me why, I just do. Love the song

savvy

1. Alphabet Street

All the rest are crap.

- Eye No musically actually isn't terrible, but the lyrics suck

He said in an interview that it took 7 weeks to throw Lovesexy together...and it shows.

Now if you throw in the B-Sides...and extended mixes

1. Alphabet Street

2. Scarlet Pussy

3. IWUH (Part 3) (Take this beat)

4. Glam Slam (Escape)

5. IWUH (Part 2)

6. All the rest are crap

Now if you throw in other songs from that period that were officially published (at the time), but never made it to the album itself

1. Good Love

2. Alphabet Street

3. Scarlet Pussy

4. IWUH (Part 3) (Take this beat)

5. Glam Slam (Escape)

6. IWUH (Part 2)

7. All the rest are crap

V10LETBLUES

Very overrated album. Not terrible, but not 80's great either.

For me this album has always been the end of the Can Do No Wrong era.

Alphabet street is great, a solid- 9

I Wish U heaven- 8

Annastesia- 7

the rest 5's

Such imagination, focus and musicianship on this album. He had such vision, a true concept. Nothing else by anyone else sounds anything like this. I doubt they ever will. A truly remarkable album that brought me closer to music. I listen to it and it's one sitting. This is how an album should be. Art should not be Collection of songs but a cohesive while.
I'll edit this when sober...

Interesting thread and an even more interesting album...I listened to this a few weeks ago in its 1 track version for the first time in decades, brought back memories for sure but certainly not the kick I got in 88...

Before 88, all P´s major albums were huge on their own, Lovesexy was the first where the live version (concert) was how the music was to be truly played, this has been the same ever since. Simply watch Lovesexy live in Dortmund and then listen to the CD, it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out which one is better.

Prince has never stopped doing this , the TGE album being reduced to overproduced noise in comparison to the live and out-take versions, or to be honest anything he has done since. Prince discovered something very sacred in the SOTT/Lovesexy menopause, or to put it another way, we all know Mozarts music, but have we any boots of him doing it live???

PS if I am not mistaken, he probably found it in the U4 in Vienna cool

If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

"True to his status as the last enigma in music, Prince crashed into London this week in a ball of confusion" The Times 2014

I listened to the album yesterday for the first time a long while and it again blew me away. It think this album has his best guitar work. It's not in yer race but it is woven into the music.

My ranking

Anna Stesia
Eye Wish U Heaven
Eye no
Alphabet Street

1. Alphabet St.
2. When 2 R In Love
3. Anna Stesia
4. Lovesexy
5. Eye No
6. Positivity
7. I Wish U Heaven
8. Glam Slam
9. Dance On

I'm really passionate about the first three songs. Alphabet St. is an excellent example of Prince combining originality with commercial appeal. When 2 R In Love is one of his best romantic songs. The last two songs are average songs, they don't annoy me and they don't excite me.

I don't feel like rating them individually.

I'll just say that I love "Glam Slam", "Anna Stesia"; "Dance On" and "Alphabet Street".

The rest is shit.

I'm still baffled how people can not hear the pure brilliance of Glam Slam. The ending to that song... well he hasn't done anything that exciting for me in years. He can be so predictable lately. Still excellent but nothing to make me sit up and think "fuck!".

It's his age. Wonder's the same. At least Madge gets different people in. She fucking needs to mind you as she's throw-away at best wink

Lovesexy is in my top 3 Prince albums but it's a strange one.

I don't think all of the tracks are great if taken in isolation but as an album they add up to more than the sum of their parts.

Anna Stesia, Alphabet St and Positivity are my stand-out tracks.

i feel the same way. i think some people might not be able to relate, but i think its a beautiful song filled with some real beautiful thoughts, though kinda mushy(which probably drives people away)
