Prince Collectibles You Lost, Damaged or Passed on Buying

Here's a sad topic: what's the coolest Prince item you ever had that you now lost, destroyed, given away etc., or worse yet, decided not to buy and later regretted it?

My offerings:

1. I lost my ticket stub from his 1983 performance in Augusta, GA

2. I threw away "1999" on 8-Track

3. Decided not to buy "Mountains" on 10-inch white vinyl (still kicking myself over that one)

Loads, but I regeret not buying The War on cd when it was available for semi reasonable money, now I don't think it's worth the £100+ price tag it now commands. Luckily I know a nice person who ripped me a copy from his cd.

i could have bought even more crap from the NPG store that could be worth more money, but then it would lie in the same pile as the rest of the crap that i did buy but won't sell as i can't be arsed

if i could find someone face to face to offer me hard cash for my stuff then i probably would, but until then my very rare vinyl will stay locked in a dj box for another decade or decades, and the piles of rare cds will sit on the shelves, even the rare ones i have numerous copies that sell for £100 on fleabay

i have the music and it's backed up at least twice, and that's whats important

Given the price Rave In2 goes for these days, I should have bought more from the webstore.

Also the NPG Hockey Jerseys seem to go for more than they used to. I have three of them (Purple, Aqua, Red) and I was wanting the whole set, but all the recent ones have gone for at least triple what I paid for the others... that was a few years back though.

I think that the older I get the less interested I become in collecting rare items. Like others here I have spent possibly thousands on Prince over the years and still have a lot of very tasty items, but having and buying really rare things is something I have lost interest in. I recently began selling Prince items that I have doubles (or more) of that I bought in my "must have everything no matter what the cost" days. So long as I have my unofficial material safely backed up, as well as my core collection and a few items that are really special to me then i'm happy.

Collecting, it's a funny business at times, a sickness of sorts. lol

I wish I hadn't thrown away all the longboxes that my CDs came in, since those are actually worth something now and would be cool to have.

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

I threw away the case to “Rave In2 the Joy Fantastic” to save space. I had no idea people want that NPGMC crap.

My experience has been the opposite. I once had a massive cd collection but it was all stolen. Every single disc. Roughly 1500 pieces or so. I lost of lot of gems. But not a single piece of my Prince collection was taken. It's so large that I ripped it all to hard drive and store it in boxes in a closet in my basement. The thieves never saw it. wink

right now it fits on a 3TB drive, but by the end of this week i'll have went over that limit but 4tb drives are almost 3x the price of 3tb drives. right now a 64gb memory stick is £30 so it will take a bit of catching up for memory sticks to drop in price, not to mention everything else i get in that time. it's like game of cat and mouse, my collection expanding at a rate close to technology

My car was broken into in London back in 1998 and they tore through to the book to nick a bag. In the bag was my ATWIAD long box and a proper copy of the undertaker CD. That always bugged me.

The ones that got away? Hmmm. Harder. Eventually I got everything collectable I wanted, but I had to pay a princely sum for some of them.

The ones that I had the chance to get for very little, but ended up paying high for were Strange Tales from the Purple Rain, Royal Jewels, Peace and War.

You terrible, terrible fans! lol

I saw a painting of him at Kensington Market though I don't know if it was for sale or not, I could have asked and offered to pay for it, but left it. It would have looked tres iconic on my wall smile

I also saw a prince postcard at a store and I could get 2 more and that for a good price, but couldn't find a nice third one, and I'm extremely picky.

Mother threw out the following in 1998

8 foot long Graffiti Bridge Album poster with Prince

Large 1992 European Tour Poster

Selection of early 1990s cassingles, Gett Off, Cream, Diamonds and Pearls, Insatiable (Grrr!!!) Sexy MF, Money don't matter 2 night, Morning papers, Jerk out, New Power generation.

I lost Poster showing the 1988 Lovesexy tour entourage with Prince in the middle sometime around 2001.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Since I've only been a Prince fan for 5 years, I didn't have a chance to get a lot of now rare items when they first came out.

The only damaged Prince item I have is my Lotusflow3r shirt. I wore it very often, and the picture is beginning to come off, and it's got a hole or two in it.

i think you are the only person that actually received one of those t shirts. there are more geniune prince guitars in circulation than there are lotusflower.con t shirts

lol I originally had it worded "I poked a hole or two in it", but I thought that made it sound like I did it intentionally, so I reworded it.

I was given a one sided promo of Head / Sister / Partup, for helping a friend move. Put in my car then helped him out. It went up to 90 that day and warped the vinyl. A painful lesson.
