It was my cousins misfortune that actually saved me because I was tempted to listen to The Black Album and I could have been possessed as well. Prince knew that this album was a bad spirit and stopped it's release to protect the masses. If any of you have any type of copy the this album, you should know it is evil and you must destroy it by burning it. Otherwise the demons will sabatoge your life especially your finances.

An original vinyl copy would certainly sabotage your finances.
... Seriously, what is it about Prince that attracts the crazies?
blah blah blah | |

Haha!... erik319 thinks you're kinda crazy romeo77090...I'm actually going to reserve judgement.
Romeo...if Prince repeatedly played Bob George, When 2 R in Love and Superfunkycalifragisexi LIVE...how do you feel he is protecting us?

During that time period, Prince had a bad spirit over him that was difficult to shake off. He finally saw the light ridded himself of this bad spirit. This was his reference in Positivity. "Don't kiss the beast. Be superior at least. I'm not crazy. I'm just doing the work because i'm willing to do the work.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Romeo, you're also quoting a fair amount of Prince lyrics there...no worries, I don't think you're 'crazy'. We should all be constantly 'working' on ourselves, I'll give you that.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
So why did he release it in 94? blah blah blah
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
erik319...he may say Warner Bros released it...that's the usual retort, yanno?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Prince gave it Warners to fulfil his contract. Warners couldn't release it without his consent.
If it's a work of pure evil, why did he not just give them Roadhouse Garden or 8 other tracks from the hundreds he had in storage? blah blah blah
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Well, that's right erik319, I'm with you... Romeo are u listening? Can you see that Prince is a man of contradictions?

Involved where Cat, Prince, Ingrid, Susan Rogers in that dark night where the Black album was shelved
This would make for an interesting mini movie

Hmmm...I think I'll give your configuration a go.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
LOL...if The Black Album lead his cousin to be "possessed", I would truly pity him if he ever got ahold to some Gangsta Nip or Brotha Lynch Hung. LOL

Wow! This is quite a thread. I've been away for sometime but it's nice to come back and pick up stuff like this. Really like the way you handle other Spiritotter.
I am not an orger who knows a lot about about all the music but I have learnt a lot here so far. Reading your well broken down post about TBA which I've only listened to twice and didn't like except for the one slow song on there, I understand now that it was more of a reaction album. Private use intended and yes, not a good idea to bring out at the time. Yet still OFFS The Vault also states, initially intended for private but they are like black and white in comparison.
I personally never understood the God aspect behind Lovesexy which everyone spoke about when I first came to the org, after not having listened to Prince for 14 years or so. I also didn't understand the detest for TRC or Prince's faith because to me, Prince had always looked for higher reason in his songs since the beginning. But then I never got the albums in the order they came out.
The way you've explained it and when the lyrics, which I know are strung together from different songs, I see the thread. It's definitely a favourite album, though I tend to listen to his newer stuff. At the time though, I loved it for the energy, the funkiness, the way it all fit together so perfectly, (but then Prince's music normally does)and of course the references to God.
Anyway, thanks for the enlightening thread on those albums! "Free URself, B the best that U can B, 3rd Apartment from the Sun, nothing left to fear" Prince Rogers Nelson - Forever in my Life -

Dear Spiritotter,
It is interesting that you say Lovesexy helped you during a time when you admitted to yourself that you are gay. And yet you started that contentious thread, "Prince is NOT a gay black man."

Bohemian67,
It was my pleasure - I am glad you were able to enjoy the substantive elements to this thread on the original incarnation of The Funk Bible, which led Prince to The Black Album / Lovesexy era.
Personally speaking, I think every album has a time and a place and were it not for the aforementioned dark periods in Prince's psychology, we would have never been greeted with the euphoria of Lovesexy. What an absolutely exquisite album...
Here's to Prince's gemini-esque forays into the dark and light side of the force.

SPIRITOTTER, Thanks for the wonderful post. I am not a huge fan of Lovesexy because I find it to be too messy and all over the place (especially coming off of the heels of Sign) I DO appreciate why so many love this album. There are wonderful moments on this record. I think it would have been a stronger set with the inclusion of Rebirth of the Flesh (perfect opener), THEN Eye No...
Cross The Line etc...would have also been better choices than Dance On...AND the extended rap version of Alphabet Street is just terrible...

The project was rushed and it shows.

i'm almost afraid to weigh in (i seen a moderator lurking about somewhere!) but here goes, prince used to be magic. i don't know when i noticed the change, but those days of lovesexy in a day, black album to the bootleggers, "discovering" a new protege every week... those days are history.
i mean, i paid a hundred bucks to some guy in a record store for a scratched up 3rd or 4th generation of some mess -- but i had the black album. i appreciated the release to CD whenever that was.
i dunno, era probably had something to do with the prince we hear today. or, to be perfectly crass, could it be that we just don't hear him on the radio like we used to? to be far to all the haters, i have been listening to 20Ten now for two years and still don't get it -- i wish to god prince would just release some funk... not larry graham medleys, but some stripped down funk.
he could do it in an instant i think, but he won't. in fact, re-release the funk! i guess it's better to toss off a tease of this or that, who knows -- or better still: who really cares? well, i care, i guess.
i could put the black album, lovesexy, and sign o' the time on right now and not have to wonder wtf? just groove. but that was the eighties. enough said, i'mma skiddadle before a mod catches me
La, la, la

Hear hear!
87-88 was such an exciting time for a Prince fan.
Remembering there was no internet, facebook, twitter etc.... but the rumors of an unreleased album were everywhere, and the anticipation as exciting as fark!
I spent $50 on a TDK cassette of a 3rd Gen copy of the 3rd Gen vinyl that was about to hit our stores. Then when it arrived, I got hit with another $100 for it. And remembering now, for some reason it WAS dark and black, as the name suggested. But it was farken funky as. The two openers were brilliant and Bob George was just...
I was never big on Lovesexy when it 1st came out. The God BS, the cover backlash and Eric Leeds (hehe) put me off a bit, but the Black Album always kept me company when I needed it.
Might go and listen to it now. Thanks.

The threads? I looked at "Some Clarification" and "Prince Album / Era's" the whole thing, then clicked on LoveSexy within the latter thread and couldn't find anything...

No not the threads. I think she means the cd. I know, it's a bother that those songs are knitted together. "Free URself, B the best that U can B, 3rd Apartment from the Sun, nothing left to fear" Prince Rogers Nelson - Forever in my Life -
