Urgh I forgot Cat was in this. Now the horror is slowly coming back to me. I only saw this hot mess all the way through one time in my lifetime. The rest of the times I've seen it was only in bits and cringeful pieces. But even that was years ago. [Edited 3/30/12 12:29pm] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Cat was not in this movie. Are you think of Robin Powers?

That's the chick that looks like Cat? They look very similar IMO. [Edited 3/30/12 12:37pm] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

lol sortta, I would have prefered the Lovesexy band in this movie, it would have been more interesting
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
How much you want to bet that Robin was just a replacement for Cat and that Cat was pulled a Vanity and dropped out the movie? I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I don't necessarily disagree with you regarding the quality of the material but it is funny that the newest song ("Thieves in the Temple") was the only big hit. Had he not contributed that song I can't imagine what the lead single would have been.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
lol a whole bunch of people pull out of that movie, I think a lot of them believed it wasn't going to be that good
I don't know when exactly that Cat left but I think it was sometime at the end of the Lovesexy period along with Boni
Robin could be a Cat replacement, Robin came off as too hardcore, Cat was feline. Robin was in Ice Cube video Today Was A Good Day:during this scene

I believe the original first single was to be 'Question Of U'.
I definately agree about Thieves, but as the last addition to the album it would've been the exception rather than the rule I think - the whole album couldn't have been a last minute addition. I'm thinking back more to the Rave 88/89 kind of sound, which is a little more rushed and less polished sounding. NPG the song and the Time material on there exhibts these kind of qualities, very little melodically going on.

Hmm, tough to say how "The Question of U" would have fared as a single. Sure, hardcore fans love it but it's not exactly a commercial song. It's kind of slow and I find it hard to imagine it being a top forty pop hit but it may have charted high on the back of the success of the Batman album. Prince may have still been a big enough star that anything he released as a first single would have cracked the top forty. [Edited 3/31/12 6:48am]

I don't know its hard to say, part of the PRince-Batman era was dark the other part colorful. the GB look borrows heavily from the colorful Lovesexy so it's hard to say

Yeah she did come off as too hardcore, as in trying to damn hard, she in part was one of the reasons why the movie sucked. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Jimmy Jam made a joke about this in one of the Original 7ven interviews. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

This look reminds me so much of the Prince period (1979-1980), anyone else notice that Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

There is a whole story behind Robin Powers and an all girl Protege band Prince had set up, the look was similar to Cat's Lovesexy look
If she was just more sensually aggressive she would have been cool. But I think the hard edge to the movie overall lent to that

Just watched it again, I took a bath and let it run, but its just not any better, the best part is my DVD's has the music videos at the end. The movie is one big music video done badly, I really abhored his look at the time, very late 80s, the long hair and goatee beard were aggh!! and his skin is very white (It stands out against the mostly authentic looking black cast, even Morris looks blacker (With the freeckles, is he a mulatto), I don't think the movie was relevant for 90, its a lot more mid 80s to me (Like about 1986ish but in the worst way).
Sorry its still a stinker, the music was wack, at least with UTCM you had great music but this music is very 55/100 C- material rather than the quality of his other movies. Theres no mountains or beautiful ones, even Take me with you sounds like Purple rain compared to such throwaways as we can funk and elephants and flowers.
Sorry guys, still can't stand it. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

The ultimate test - if you can sit in a bath, watch Graffiti Bridge and NOT drown yourself before TC's rap over the end credits, you are a fan for LIFE!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It was done something like SOTT but with an iffy plot like PR/UTCM combined, it sucks I was just happy 2 C Jill Jones one more time
Yeah Graffiti Bridge is a sad afterthought of Lovesexy, the look and everything. He talked about this films idea back in 1985. He should have left it alone. He did look sickly but by this time Prince was spending more time indoors at Paisley Park and in the dark of the studios. It is interesting that the person who present an interracial world via his band was now the whitest person in his band. Dr Fink was missing getting married around this time. If he did a semi SOTT like 'movie video' for Lovesexy that would have been hot, I think his focus was still on at the time and the band was still interesting.

Something's wrong with yall, I love TC's rap!

I got out of the bath during the last song "Still would stand all time" the only highlight of it for me. But the ending is pretty schmaltzy. TC's rap is dreadful though, I think I wanted to drown him in the bath rather than myself. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I know something's wrong with me at least; I can sing the whole rap from memory - that ain't healthy!

I remember hearing a rumor that Prince was using Kim Basinger as "bait" in order to get Warner Bros. to fund the movie The story goes that,he convinced them that the red-hot Kim Basinger would co-star in the movie and that's when they got interested and agreed to give Prince the $7 million to make the film. Not sure if this is true, lol.
