Those are nice shots from the movie. It's making me want to go out and rent it, but I fear I will regret it after watching it for 10 minutes. lol

lol U might, I watched it 1 time, and never had a need to watch again

But maybe U should just once, so you can fairly have an honest discussion on the movie

Graffiti Bridge concept is interesting, but not my favorite era
I reminds me of a downturn in his life/career for a moment

Didn't like the look much, reminds me of Michael Jackson for some reason

Then the whole Purple Rain II thing with GB just was a total let down that should not have happened

Cat gone, Sheila gone, Boni gone, Eric & Atlanta missing, Dr Fink somewhere around, even though they played on some of the songs
Ingrid still floating around
Wow where was Jill so prominent up until Parade, in France?
The Time still angry...but we got Jerk Out
Madonna said no, Anna Garcia said goodbye, Kim Bassinger said no
Game Boyz that just didn't work, didn't enhance the experience
a studio release of the Lovesexy tour Aftershows: Still Would Stand All Time
some other remakes of Vault Music: Can't Stop This Feeling(Dream Factory outtake), We Can Funk(Dream Factory outtake), Tick Tick Bang(Dirty Mind/Controvery outtake), Jerk Out(Mazarati outtake), Chocolate(Purple Rain outtake), Data Bank(Dream Factory outtake) I prefer all of them as outtakes

Urgh I forgot Cat was in this. Now the horror is slowly coming back to me. lol I only saw this hot mess all the way through one time in my lifetime. The rest of the times I've seen it was only in bits and cringeful pieces. But even that was years ago.

I think it's a shambles that it was turned into a Purple Rain sequel, I hate things like that and in my mind it is not a sequel - Prince basically only did that to get funding, which is very typical of Prince to be so focused on the NOW that he is willing to sacrifice everything else.

The soundtrack itself is good, but benefits from most of the songs being at least a couple of years old, often more. Had the whole thing been 1989/90 stuff, I think he could've been in trouble, and the material on the album wouldn't be half as good.

Lots of tied up lose ends in this project (musically and ideas from early movie ideas), and the whole thing is like a congealing splatter of cum on the wall after the massive orgasm of the early/mid 80s.

I don't necessarily disagree with you regarding the quality of the material but it is funny that the newest song ("Thieves in the Temple") was the only big hit. Had he not contributed that song I can't imagine what the lead single would have been.

lol a whole bunch of people pull out of that movie, I think a lot of them believed it wasn't going to be that good

I don't know when exactly that Cat left but I think it was sometime at the end of the Lovesexy period along with Boni

Robin could be a Cat replacement, Robin came off as too hardcore, Cat was feline.

Robin was in Ice Cube video Today Was A Good Day:during this scene

Picked up a girl been tryin to fuck since the 12th grade
It's ironic, I had the brew she had the chronic
The Lakers beat the Supersonics
I felt on the big fat fanny
Pulled out the jammy, and killed the punanny
And my dick runs deep, so deep
So deep put her ass to sleep
Woke her up around one
She didn't hesitate, to call Ice Cube the top gun
Drove her to the pad and I'm coastin
Took another sip of the potion hit the three-wheel motion
I was glad everything had worked out
Dropped her ass off and then chirped out
Today was like one of those fly dreams

I believe the original first single was to be 'Question Of U'.

I definately agree about Thieves, but as the last addition to the album it would've been the exception rather than the rule I think - the whole album couldn't have been a last minute addition. I'm thinking back more to the Rave 88/89 kind of sound, which is a little more rushed and less polished sounding. NPG the song and the Time material on there exhibts these kind of qualities, very little melodically going on.

Hmm, tough to say how "The Question of U" would have fared as a single. Sure, hardcore fans love it but it's not exactly a commercial song. It's kind of slow and I find it hard to imagine it being a top forty pop hit but it may have charted high on the back of the success of the Batman album. Prince may have still been a big enough star that anything he released as a first single would have cracked the top forty.

@OldFriends4Sale: OK no ice-cream-brain-freeze today! giggle (soz, but Lovesexy is the pink, fluffy unicorn to my inner Agnes).

Watched as an extended music video, it works for me; Enjoy the soundtrack & 'Love Song'.

Honourable mention to the pimp sandwich - J: "Sexiness to the left of U", M: "Sexiness to the right";

Do you think that working on the Batman soundtrack partly influenced Graffiti Bridge, in that Prince was trying to recreate that comicbook/surreal look? Timeless and placeless. (Were the Prince comic books released around the same time?)

Seems WB used it as a promo vehicle for the other artists too, which probably made more business sense to the music execs, I guess. Shouldn't have linked it to PR though. Or was it because UTCM wasn't as 'box office friendly' as PR, that GB morphed into PR II?

The original concept & the final film were quite different: http://princevault.com/in...rogression "...central theme of the original script for the movie; a search for "the grand progression" of "17 chords, all originating from the A-flat", which would make the graffiti bridge of the movie appear." (ref.tonal frequencies)

Just seems like another chapter in Prince's search for a higher spirituality; Prince was playing with another medium of expression to get his ideas across. P was heading in another direction & WB wanted PR II.

I don't know its hard to say, part of the PRince-Batman era was dark the other part colorful.

the GB look borrows heavily from the colorful Lovesexy so it's hard to say

Elephants & Flowers performance

Boy is lonely on a burnin' hot summer night
He's looking 4 some action, he's looking 4 a fight
He's looking 4 a savior in a city full of fools
Maybe he just needs a good talker 2 give him a good talkin' 2
Can we talk, baby?
Strip down, strip down
I think I'm gonna fall in love 2night

Elephants and flowers

Hot sweaty light paints a picture red and gold
On a crowd of naked bodies stripped down 2 their very souls (New Power)
How can he find a shy angel in a city so bold? (Super bold)
He can't even find a place 2 dance
Huh, this is rock 'n' roll
Strip down, strip down (Elephants and flowers)
Is everybody ready? Here we go!

Love the One who is Love (Love)
One who gives us the power (Power)
One who made everything (What?)
Elephants and flowers (What will He do?)
One who will listen when all others will not
There will be peace 4 those who love God a lot

Elephants and flowers

Strip down
I think I'm gonna fall in love 2night
And when I do, there won't be no more (Confusion)
There won't be no more tears (No tears)
There won't be no more enemies so that eliminates all the fear
There won't be no sorrow (Sorrow)
There won't be no pain (No pain)
There won't be no ball and no chain
Strip down, strip down
Elephants and flowers

Boy is lonely on a burnin' hot summer night
He's looking 4 an angel 2 hold him till the morning light
Here we go Love the One who is Love (Well)
One who gives us the power (Power)
One who made everything (Everything)
Elephants and flowers (Oh yeah)
One who will listen when all others will not
There will be peace 4 those who love God a lot
Here we go

Just never got it, the performance is awright, but there are better songs

There is a whole story behind Robin Powers and an all girl Protege band Prince had set up, the look was similar to Cat's Lovesexy look

If she was just more sensually aggressive she would have been cool. But I think the hard edge to the movie overall lent to that

Just watched it again, I took a bath and let it run, but its just not any better, the best part is my DVD's has the music videos at the end.

The movie is one big music video done badly, I really abhored his look at the time, very late 80s, the long hair and goatee beard were aggh!! and his skin is very white (It stands out against the mostly authentic looking black cast, even Morris looks blacker (With the freeckles, is he a mulatto), I don't think the movie was relevant for 90, its a lot more mid 80s to me (Like about 1986ish but in the worst way).

Sorry its still a stinker, the music was wack, at least with UTCM you had great music but this music is very 55/100 C- material rather than the quality of his other movies. Theres no mountains or beautiful ones, even Take me with you sounds like Purple rain compared to such throwaways as we can funk and elephants and flowers.

Sorry guys, still can't stand it.

It was done something like SOTT but with an iffy plot like PR/UTCM combined, it sucks I was just happy 2 C Jill Jones one more time

Yeah Graffiti Bridge is a sad afterthought of Lovesexy, the look and everything. He talked about this films idea back in 1985. He should have left it alone. He did look sickly but by this time Prince was spending more time indoors at Paisley Park and in the dark of the studios. It is interesting that the person who present an interracial world via his band was now the whitest person in his band. Dr Fink was missing getting married around this time. If he did a semi SOTT like 'movie video' for Lovesexy that would have been hot, I think his focus was still on at the time and the band was still interesting.

I got out of the bath during the last song "Still would stand all time" the only highlight of it for me. But the ending is pretty schmaltzy. TC's rap is dreadful though, I think I wanted to drown him in the bath rather than myself.

I remember hearing a rumor that Prince was using Kim Basinger as "bait" in order to get Warner Bros. to fund the movie lol The story goes that,he convinced them that the red-hot Kim Basinger would co-star in the movie and that's when they got interested and agreed to give Prince the $7 million to make the film. Not sure if this is true, lol.
