Great album from my favourite era. There was so much stuff around back then
Also some great out-takes - Slave 2 The System, Superhero, Mad, Proud Mary and Funky Design (I prefer the Sonny version to Prince's as its got the cool 'blow ya mind, blow ya mind everybody's trippin on the funky design' chorus)
I think Prince and Sonnys vocals compliment eachother well on most songs especially Exodus and Count the Days.
The segues are actually quite funny but you wouldnt listen to them more than a couple of times.

I love Exodus and remember well The White Room performance which was badass! I'd agree that 'live' is where this is at.
Also remember The Sunday how when Prince performed Billy Jack Bitch live and NPG were talking about their dismay at TGE not being released - they then went on to promoting Exodus
This was a European-only release which may be why some of you have never neard it.
However Sonny T's vocals are the weak part (apart from on HR) - don't believe me then graba hold of the following:
Slave 2 he System Mad Funky Design Acknowledge Me Super hero Love Thy ill Be Done Proud Mary
Love all the tracks - and understand the reason Prince/ Tora Tora wasn't laying down lead vocals but, damn, if only.....!
Fond memories though | |

I just listened to a bit of Exodus this am for the first time in a long time, and I retract my former statement, it's actually a load of old monkey shite.

THE EXODUS HAS BEGUN probs THE funkiest shit ever put on wax this side of the 70;s

Has anyone else noticed the similarites between the intro to Hallucination Rain and 'Higher' from the Lewis Conection LP from the late 70's... I'm sure Sonny & Prince were reminiscing and had the album on rotation before coming up with that track
[Edited 3/21/12 3:28am] blah blah blah

Weak album! Except for "Count the days" and "The Exodus has begun" I don't care for any of the tracks!

i've not listened to that since about 95 as the quality was so crap, but it was especially interesting to hear at the time to hear unbroadcast tracks. shame more proshot unbroadcast stuff like that doesn't circulate. at least at TFI friday they shoot 2 songs and use the other song on another date. we had to cheer on some guest that prerecorded a song 3 weeks ago when we were there

Exodus is one helluva funky album & his most underrated. I even love the segues, a million times better than the segues that you get on most r n' b & hip hop albums. Have mercy!

I quite like the Exodus album. It's kind of similar to the Time albums of the early eighties, a bit more funk than the albums he released under his own name.

Exodus is one of my favourites...funky bar none...although I find Get Wild probably one of the most skippable (I like the video htough, damn Mayte, she's addictive)....Sonny T does fine on vocals...he's not trying to be Prince which is damn refreshing!! and Prince is in the mix on most if not all of the songs...hidden in the background on some but definately here....as much as the seques get in the way - i love them...mashed potato girl is classic prince humour....IMHO this is a must have...the last track alone is worth the price of admission...cherry cherry is great, count the days is fantastic and return of the bumpsquad just funky!! don't let Sonny T's vocals put you off -embrace the difference...he's no worse than George Clinton...as funky as George is, he's no vocalist either

Love the Exodus CD. I only wish Sony T. wasn't the lead singer. That killed the CD for me. Love the music. The segues are over the top in a meh sort of way. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

I think Sonny being the singer proves Prince just goes with whoever is around at the time to suit his vision. Like "*pluck* you're the band leader" - Same goes for St. Paul.
Prince wanted a Funkadelic inspired NPG album, looked at who was available, Michael was behind drums, Morris and Tommy behind keys (latter was probably out for this any way!), Sonny was the only guy not stood behind something bolted to the floor. He's a talented MF, but a great singer and focal point for a band he is not.

Exodus is brilliant...even Cherry Cherry. As Unique said some of the segues are crap apart from The Mash Potato Girl though.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

You can't be the "victim" of "a" suicide. It's something you do to yourself, not something that just happens. You could certainly be the VITCTIM of A drive-by, but not a suicide.
WOSRT LYRICS EVER
Also, I believe Sonny actually wrote the stuff with which he's credited on this album. I

Sonny T lays down the funk, and Exodus is a good (not excellent) album with excellent moments as "The Exodus Has Begun," "Count the Days," "Return of the Bump Squad," and "Good Life" are some of the funkiest songs ever crafted from Prince's camp, and "Cherry, Cherry" captures well the old school post-doo wop but not yet Motown feel.

Agreed and it does remind me of Motown

Got my CD of the Exodus album signed at the Virgin event many many years ago - my only Prince signed item.
Therefore, I love this album
