What year was Under the Cherry Moon supposed to have been set in?

Hmmm...let's see...a title that makes more sense...to your topic...let's see...hmmm..."Under The Cherry Moon: What year was it set in?"...yeah, that may be better than "UCM".

I would think it was set in sometime in the mid 30's but really, it feels like it was set in an imaginary hot 30's fashion phase sometime in the 80's.

In other words, like Prince and the director and writers created a setting in which it was a modern time, but the hot and hip thing was emulating 1920's or 1930's style and fashion and spirit.

Interesting if you look at UCM, uh I mean, Under The Cherry Moon in that manner.

Isn't there a scene (i Kinda remember) where on a piece of paper, there is a 1985 date?

There's a copy of a Miles Davis record from 1985 sitting in the background of one scene which woul at least date the time period post-1985.
