Prince's Acting I know alot of people think he's a terrible actor, and I can understand why since he never really been a serious actor. Although i find his over the top acting terribly fantastic! I really think his acting reflects his personality and i don't think he's really that bad considering the drama encountered in Purple Rain. I even wonder what his acting would be like now if he were to release another film, but for now the only acting we'll see from him is 80s Prince in his crazy hayday. Style is not biting style when U can't find the funk

His brooding character I love, I think that held back acting is good via Purple Rain and some scenes in UTCM, like the opening piano bar scene, the 'phone sex' poetry scene and of course the Girls & Boys dance scene

To me He Is A great Actor, Al pacino Is better, But still a Good Actor...
The sceme in purple rain, When his father Shots Himself and The Kid Is crying and Talking to the police... In that scene you can see all his Potential as an actor. Even though he isn't talking in that scene, you can see His desperation...
Under the cherry Moon Is more like a Comedy, maybe that's why some people dont take him seriously!

I think he actually had a lot of potential as an actor. He had some really lovely moments in Purple Rain. (The "never get married" and "waking up the next morning after smashing up the basement" scenes were particularly fine.) His performance was better in Purple Rain than Under the Cherry Moon largely because he had a director in the former (Albert Magnoli) who was able to bring those moments out of him.
What we don't know, however, is whether he would have been capable of playing anyone but himself (or someone very like himself). Actors have to be able to drop a lot of themselves - retaining only the parts that pertain to the character they're playing. Prince had a very strong, recognized persona going in, which makes dropping it that much harder.
He chose another path - so we'll never really know what he is capable of as an actor. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I think he was a very believable character in Purple Rain. I love that movie. I wish he would act again but I know he's a musicman. [Edited 3/20/12 7:07am]

He would be good as a villian, wise ass or do the voice overs. Prince's Sarah

I always wanted to see him in a Batman movie as a villian that'd be cool and dressed in all purple even the heels

wow: just to watch Prince moove... walk, and TALK!!
In those movies, he was soo cool back then.
Not a good actor, but still he makes me fascinated.
Purple Rain and Under The Cherry Moon - those were wonderful movies....
Graffiti Bridge, not so much, too weird storyline, and the performances aren't that great..
but Elephants & Flowers, this is a great "music video".. Prince 4Ever.

Voice overs, yes! - he could definitely do the voice of a donkey or a zebra. But seriously, he really could do a donkey or a zebra.
Edit - I think he would've done voice overs for an animated movie if he had a young child. Several actors have mentioned their children as a motivating factor for doing an animated film - their kid loves disney or madagascar or whatever, and they can get access to the theme park for their kid when it's closed to the public.

Prince is a good actor.
If you hate Prince's acting, watch "The Room". You'll appreciate it more.

I think Prince is capable of acting. I echo others on his performance in Purple Rain in the basement reacting to his father shooting him self. It was very convincing.

He did pretty good in that scene where he is asking his mom if she is okay after his dad was beating her up (don't i keep the heat on?) also. Wasn't all the tears he cried in that movie real or based on real life experiences? *~Reach for the moon, if you miss it, you will land among the stars~*

(33) INT. DRESSING ROOM -- NIGHT
the acting in the dressing room where Wendy asked the Kid about the music, was really good, Wendy & Lisa were good, BrownMark Bobby Z & Dr Fink reactionary responses where good, Dr Finks 'God got there periods mixed up' was good, it seemed like a reallife 'awkward' response And Prince's bitchy arrogant behavior was good.

I can't believe you just compared Prince's acting to Al Pacino's.

I agree that he did a decent job of portraying brooding, as well as contemplation and sulking. Comedy he was alright. What's funny to me is that the kissing scene in Purple Rain is one of his worst acting moments in that movie. P couldn't do romance too well.

Very nice-love em. It took alot of skill for Prince to pull these shots off.

I think he plays "moody" very naturally. Cocky too.
His love and anger needs a bit of work! .

I didn't like the UTCM comedy too much, the scenes I think he did well, were the 'performances' the Christopher Tracey Parade scene with him in gold was good. and natural
I wonder is that how Prince kissed though, lol that could be real. Or maybe he just tried to oversex it.

I think his anger in Purple Rain was good, his anger in UTCM not so good
PR anger scenes: Computer Blue rehearsal where he cranks the guitar destroying the underworld living space after father suicide attempt post Sex Shooter anger toward Morris Day toward Apollonia
I think these were pretty good

To me it looked like he tried 2 oversex it because in 3 chains o' gold he looked normal kissing troy beyer lol. *~Reach for the moon, if you miss it, you will land among the stars~*

PR was a long video. The never get married scene was good. In UTCM he was better. He's best in conversations cutting to the chase. Whys your father such a punk or talking to Tricky. That look on his face when he's about to get the pen from the waiter? That's his thing.
