I like what I'm hearing so far. She sounds just a slight bit like Betty-Mabry Davis in that song. The song has a nice funk sound and the horns bring it out. I remember seeing her sing that song on a vid clip, after an interview, when, Prince, Andy, and the NPG performed. I believe that's when they were in France early last year.

I guess we are supposed to be floored by the musicianship, but that alone could never be enough. There is a very good reason why Katy Perry records sell so well. They connect with people. This Andy Allo stuff is dullsville. The two tracks I've heard so far are better than all of Prince's recent music, yet they are still bad for the same reasons that many of his other recent albums are bad.

I actually think it's Andy's vocals that are the weakest thing about this track, despite me digging them. There's not enough oomph to match the groove. Betty Davis a no-go.

One growl from Betty would blow the 'fro off of Andy!

On a more serious note, it seems Andy's vocals don't compliment the funk yet. She's still RnB crooning.

She seems to have that same vibrato in her not-so-in-the-right-key voice like Andre 3000.

I also thought there would be more Prince involvement after all that time he's been 'absent'!

Maybe he really did make a new album!

You're welcome to your opinion, but 'all that' doesn't change mine at all. Betty's voice on some of her tracks were a little soft at times, when she wasn't releasing that famous, funk, scream tone in her voice she's best known for. That's why I said Andy sounds 'slightly' like Betty, in parts of that song she sings. Andy's voice reminds me more of a singer by the name of Billy Miles. Everyone has their own music tastes, and it would be extremely, unrealistic, for everyone to have the same opinion on a musician/artist, so it's okay that you don't agree.

you are so right. I remember watching the Le Canal performance, when it was her turn to "be a star" on Prince's cue, she totally fucked up and he had to go over and fiddle with her guitar. I was like "wtf"" for a minute, but then was like, she's just so damn fine, I don't care that she fucked up!! And when she took off her hat on People Pleaser, shook her hair and started jumping around, I was hooked.

I would not even call her a protegee. She seems to be independent, which is always a good thing. If Prince can just release some songs with her, and leave it like that. Without carrying around him EVERYWHERE he goes, making fans think that's his girlfriend. That's a good thing.

I doubt he's with her, he is fond of her though. I mean look at her! Haha

That's fine, if you buy albums based on what people look like (rather than the quality of the music). I quit doing that when I was ... lemme see ... 15, maybe?

With that said, it is much better than that SouljaBoy video that was posted. But that doesn't mean I am going to purchase this.
