Why did Prince go on American Idol?

He once said at a concert in France ' Nowdays it's just analogue pimps and digital hoes.''

Going on American Idol Seems to go against everything he stands for.

Maybe i'm wrong

Promotion. At one point it was pulling an obscene amount of ratings. Going on there is just good business because you can't sell a product if people don't know about it.

No worse than doing a talk show. It's about audience figures.

Up front, of course. He probably waited backstage until the check cleared.

Can't a guy promote an album? If that's how a guy makes his money, that's his buisness.

Seriously, why do you bother wasting your time on this site if that's how you feel? Have you really got nothing better to do?

You have your opinion that's fine, but you must really be pathetic to be spend your time being so negative.

I doubt it. He probably can’t stand still that long; he might get served by all the people he owes money to.

Then why no remasters?
Why no website, where we can pay to download each live show, new tracks, back catalogue, vault material?
Why no record deal?

This all about the money argument really doesn't stack up. Sure he wants the best deal for whatever does but he could be generating so much more cash if he was really only about the money
RIP sad

Because he's a hypocrit. He wants real music back but he will still lower himself and sell out sometimes. If you notice, to this day, he will still put one or two sellout shit hop or neo stool sounding songs on each album along with the jams. It's like he still wants to throwdown but will sell out a little if he thinks it may bring him some new young listeners who are into that type of bullshit.

At least he hasn't sold out completely though like other older artists like Ronald Isley and Charlie Wilson but if he truly practiced what he preaches, he'd throwdown on all the tracks and give the people the finger that like shit hop, neo stool, and whatever else is popular in today's music. They've got the whole radio full of artists to buy music from, all we have is Prince unless we want to lower our standards and give in to today's sound which I never will.

Yeah, but talk shows have bands on all the time. Shows like "American Idiot" aren't into bands at all and help keep what's on current radio alive.

The reason why there isn't all of those things you mentioned is because he likes CONTROL more than money, if that's even possible. And his desire for complete control of everything is what's preventing much of what you mentioned from happening.

It was a very commercial move, but also one aimed at drawing in new (younger) fans.

it might seem like he sold out but don't forget, he was the only artist (atleast on that episode) that didn't pair up with one of the contestants to perform. Simon Cowell had beef with him over it too because he was said not to have even given any advice to the contestants, just showed up to perform and left. lol PRINCE

No interview with corny Ryan Seacrest either. lol Lolita, Satisfied, and exit. lol I liked his performance, but then again, I like both of those songs, some people don't.

Oh please, it's not any different than going on that scumbag Jay Leno's show to perform. Or showing up to the AMA's to lip-synch two medleys.
