Yes.

But I'm not in the mood for a long debate with a picky fam like you.

Know what I mean?

Yes very true...he gave up a lot of his artistic integrity when he did the Batman soundtrack. He panicked after Lovesexy wasn't received well.

American Idol was another low point but it was about promotion and desperately trying to sell records.

He may just have felt like it. People and the Paparzzi don't hound him like they used to anymore. Maybe he felt it was safe and American Idol was a baby step for him. As for these fools who say he is washed up, so thats your opinion. The dude has being giving us music for 35 years, what more do you want his blood?

We have to remember Prince is a human being with thoughts and emotions too, can he not just go on the show without everyone having to psychoanalyse his motives for doing so.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Panicked my ass. So you think he was all "I gotta get with that Batman"? You think WB wasn't trying to get it hooked up themselves? It's well known that they were using Prince music already made in some scenes (such as Baby Im A Star) etc. Please, yall need to stop talking so much shit just because you dislike him after 30 plus years of your fanaticism.

Stop wasting your time about others opinions. I really don't care about yours either.

Yep. Lighten up, it's not about politics or religion or whatever.

For me it's interesting to read what others think about prince, but I don't feel the need anymore to argue about every blurb from someone. If you see things different, fine.

Do some homework. Read any Prince bio.

Batman was a deliberate move to get the sales going again. Prince needed the hype of Batman. The movie did NOT need Prince.

All things considered, Prince made one hell of an artistic soundtrack album.

Here is the quickest version of the story right in the 1st paragraph.

Excuse me? I dont need to do any himework and I dont need a wikipedia page to try and .."school" me...

Prince has NEVER panicked about a damn thang. He put out Lovesexy and torued on that crazed underwhelming reelase. His whole career shows he has not 'panicked." If anything, WB may have panicked because of lackluster sales etc but as I originally stated, Prince himself did NOT panic.

You and the other nim made it sound like Prince was feening, sweating, shaking in WB offices "I gotta get a hit..gotta get a hit..oh Batman is being made. Mo! Get me on that project asap!!"

Again, WB and Jack Nicholson were instrumental in getting him on board. And even a "deliberate move" is not panicing...lmao...But you go head and live and die by a wikipedia or unoffical bio.....damn what happeend to some of yall?

Hmm. I never said anything about panicking. That's coming from you. Any fiction about Prince "sweating" and "shaking" is also only what you wrote.

I simply said it was a deliberate move to boost sales and get some commerical mojo back. He had done stuff like that before and would do it again. I guess that's my original point...American Idol seemed to be partially motivated by business. So what? So was Batman. Nothing wrong with that. I dug Batman, and I dug his showing up on Idol.

I would guess that he did it because he could and he wanted to have some fun lol Maybe a different type audience would recognize his talents and all of those contestants could get a grasp of what great music can entail.

Okay, so in this case, both of y'all have valid points. They were already using some of his music, Jack did aid or push to getting Prince working on the project, and Batman was a great business move for Prince. So, it was a win-win for everyone.

*

I don't understand the binary that one can't make money and make well-crafted art. I always hear people say that they would do "something" for free, but they always accept the check. Being a musician is like any other job. Sometimes you gots to do something because the boss or paycheck says so even if you don't want to do it. I'm not saying that people should compromise their principles, but I don't know of anyone who hasn't had to do "something" that they would have rather not done. And, frankly, as a fan or fam or whatever one wants to call me, I don't care if Prince is performing on one of those reality television shows that I hate so much; I'm going to check it out. Now, if he performs on one of those Fox News shows, O'Reilly or Beck, I'll have to draw the line there, but if he's singing on one of those terrible Wives reality shows, I'll just have to hold my nose and enjoy the performance.

No worse than doing a talk show. It's about audience figures.

Yeah, but talk shows have bands on all the time. Shows like "American Idiot" aren't into bands at all and help keep what's on current radio alive.

I agree with you regarding the contestants, but they have had on their show Prince, Jeff Beck, George Benson, Queen, Stevie Wonder, and plenty of others who are actually great musicians.

He went on because he wanted to completely catch Ryan Secrest off-guard, and he did!

Ryan had NO IDEA Prince was coming on - none at all! It was so cool when Ryan said, "Well, that's it for our celebrity guests tonight. There isn't anyone left to perform" and then, presto! Prince walks out!

Secrest NEVER saw THAT coming!
