We can funk : OG or duet version?

Until recently, I only knew of the Graffiti Bridge version of 'We can funk', which I really dig. It's one of my fav P songs. George Clinton turned in a great vocal performance on this one, too.

'Box o' chocolates' was my introduction to P's solo version. The guitar on that one is pretty catchy!

Which version do you like best?

mightycow,

I love one of the original versions of WCF where, during the intro, Prince counts "2, 3" and then an insanely funky beat kicks in before his trademark opening scream.

love,

Spirit

My fave is the 86 revolution version. It is so dripping wet funky its insane. The GB version is decent, but doesn't hold a candle (smile) to the 86

The only version in my eyes is the one from 1986

The released version is overworked IMO. It's like a microcosm of everything that is wrong with the whole GB project.

BTW, released version IS kinda the OG version, since it's basic tracks are from the original '83 version. 1986 version is the later, separate take on it.

'86 version

I prefer the mix on the Crucial boot. Still waiting for a clean version of that, with the backmasked reverb on the lead vocal.

niiice, i was just going to ask where to get that version! It's the first (non-GB) version of WFC I heard, and when it was taken down from youtube I was kinda bummed. Even when I got Box o Chocolates later I was slightly disappointed that there was no backmasked reverb...

any version that isn't "testing positive for the funk" or that doesn't "gladly pee in anybody's cup", or is called "oui can luv".

I love the 1986 version u mention, but u should know (if u don't already) that the duet with George is actually based on the original, 1983, recording.

There are many versions of this song, both released and unreleased: http://www.princevault.co...e_Can_Funk

This is my favorite version of We Can Funk as well. He delivers the lyrics with extreme emotion, which I love. The album version loses this aspect.
