Best Prince Concert Series?

Hi chaps

I first saw Prince in person at the age of 20 on the Nude Tour.

Having seen him on every tour since I do wonder whether I missed the best (Parade, Sign, Purple Rain) or have his later concerts (ONA, Earth Tour and the more recent Welcome 2 series) been better and more rewarding.

I've always been about the music/musicianship rather than the dancing and prancing.

Have I missed out big time or can I rest easy that I made up for lost time from Nude onwards.

Would love to hear your views.

James

Yes, you've definitely missed out. He was at the very peak of his live powers with the Lovesexy tour (but he was close with the ones preceding it). The recent tours don't even hold a candle to what he AND the bands brought to the stage back then. He had excellent musicianship AND an entertaining show. He had PASSION for the music he was performing.

What you're seeing on stage these days is a shell of what was there for those older days. Though, they live on through the bootlegs!

my first show was lovesexy and as much as i enjoyed nude and the 90s shows they weren't a patch on lovesexy. i loved the showmanship of the eighties, the way he made sure each band member knew their spot and he worked every inch of the stage.

i hate the symbol stage he uses now, the band seem so disparate and the overall feel of it is cheesy.

don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

Don't listen to alexnvrmind777. He only watches boots and hasn't been to a prince concert since the Musicology tour.

You haven't missed anything. Prince is still a fabulous performer. Just wait until he's on tour again and buy a ticket. You won't regret it and you'll love it.

Tell me about it. My first Prince gig was the Nude tour and comparing it to Lovesexy meant that I was royally disappointed. However, Diamonds and Pearls gigs were great.

to the op: on the subject of whether prince live now is better than or as good as he was in the 80s ask yourself this...is the recent remake of extralovable better or as good as the 80s original. the answer to both questions is more than likely the same.

It's subjective, but my answers to both questions is that they're both good in their own ways.

OP: GO TO THE FUTURE CONCERT AND SEE FOR YOURSELF! YOU'LL LOVE IT! smile

he's been to every tour since nude, he already knows what prince is like. to say that he missed nothing in the 80s is ridiculous. i didn't go to any shows pre 88 but after watching and listening to the boots i KNOW i missed something. i've attended no shows after 98 but again, i've watched and listened to the boots and i've missed nothing, bar maybe the ona tour and a few aftershows here and there.

The symbol stage is cool, but i think he needs more room sometimes.
