If someone is on this site, they probably have heard the outtake. The band !!! even made it part of their regular live setlist. Their cover is much more faithful to the original. Maybe some of their fans didn't know the original and could give you an unbiased response. "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

^ I think some new fans maybe had not. I regularly read pple asking about how such Prince album or side-project is, so it's likely these guys haven't heard all the outtakes.
When I first listened to the revamp I took it for what it was, and loved it, and then only I re-listened to the old one (which I used to know by heart but hadn't listened to in maybe years) and that's when I realized "oh shit I like the new one better!". Exactly the same happened with "No Light" 2 years ago.
C'mon prince, challenge me with a REALLY hard one: re-record "All My dreams"! A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I heard the new version before the old one, and though the old one is wild and probably better, the new one is still pretty good Bogey and Bacall, peanut butter and jelly, Wall being on fucking point, is "classic" dipshit. An iphone is top shelf technology. Get it straight. This thing is 4g. -Wall the great

I had heard the old one but it never really grabbed me. Love the remake. Also prefer the new version of Large Room With No Light. I also prefer the verion of Old Friends For Sale which was released on The Vault.

Blimey. It's Prince. | |

I heard the new version first and I like it but the original is better. Better from the start until the end. And at four minutes the new verison has moved into low gear with nothing interesting happening. In the original version there are several interesting things happening after four minutes.

Hi, I never heard the original song & bought Extralovable from iTunes as soon as it was available. I thought the beat was definitely funky & way more advanced then the usual songs we hear today with the likes of Lady Gaga, Britney etc (manufactured artists). But I didn't like how it was so slow & he didn't do very much singing (I never heard the original so wasn't comparing it as the original is fast paced right?). I like how in most of P's songs he sings like he's singing live whereas this one sounds really structured & restrained.
But it's Prince & I like everything he does because he's one of a kind. P.s. I don't like how he refers to himself as a mini brother - in the original he says mini hippie. [Edited 1/22/12 15:42pm] Peace in the House of Prince.

I had heard the original at some point, but by the time 2011 version came out, I had completely forgotten everything about the original. I don't listen to bootlegs much. I think the new version is terrible, and I think the original is just decent.

I like the revamped version because the original sounds a little grainy. The newer version is so much fuller and complete. However, I love the original version of Large Room. I love both versions, but I really dig the orignal of Large Room. "A united state of mind will never be divided
The real definition of unity is 1 People can slam their door, disagree and fight it But how U gonna love the Father but not love the Son? United States of Division"

- I believe we all (most of us anyway) have heard the original..... Prince 4Ever.

the original bristles with new wave funk, the remake is a dull plastic excuse for funk. i would have thought that even if i hadn't heard the original.
don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

Maybe because I didn't hear the original first, I'm enjoying the new extralovable a bit X-tra

Get outta there! Turn your radio off! There's more than music than this crap! Check the "favorite 2011 albums" thread in the Music: non-Prince forum for a few glimpses of cool, contemporary, music. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I have to say that I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the new version. I really thought it would suck, and that I would prefer the original more (well, other than the rape line. That always has made me cringe). I was shocked to find that I actually PREFER the new take. I feel it's actually musically and vocally superior to the first version. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

let me reply: it's because all / most orgers know/knew about the original song loooong before the 2011 crap version.
>> the question asked by you is therefor a bit unnecessary, I woulldn't say "silly" Prince 4Ever.

There are plenty of young people, new fans and older fans who don't do bootlegs that hadn't heard the original. The question is a good one, I think, even if not everyone here can answer it.

My answer. I usually enjoy demo versions of songs over what ends up on albums, If I do hear the demo first and if its in good quality. I believe my ears/mind are judging the sounds with the demo in mind. The rerecordings should be a lesson for P. Keep rap out of the old school songs. I don't want to hear Doug E Fresh rap over 1999! The rap is minimal in XtraLoveAble but imo doesn't work. Classic song/sound. I do like the new version! Minus the rap. I would be in farvor of P working with a rap artists on new music. Just don't rap over "when doves cry" please! What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

*clapping loudly* I agree .
Every time I think of it I get annoyed.
Having said that, I don't mind that one cover of it that came out last year by that group. Probably because it's more faithful to the spirit of the original, but again - I by far prefer the real thing. λΉ„

why not ALSO release the original intact.....?

Let me back up Nouveau here - I've been on this site for years, I've been a Prince fan for over 22 years of my life at least, and I've not heard either version in full yet.
There's an absolute shedload of "bootlegs" and such like I know nothing about.
Various reasons for that, I suppose. So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?
