Am I the only one that actually likes Graffiti Bridge? The movie, the era, as well as the album?
Just curious

The movie - I don't really care for it outside of the performance segments.
The album - I liked most of it except for 'Shake' by The Time & the title track.
The era - I liked the long hair and the clothes he was rocking at that time. He hasn't let his hair get that long since. Also the long video for 'Theives In The Temple' is still one of my faves. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

There's various threads started by various girls about how much they like his haircut in this era and everyone is more or less in agreement that there's an awesome shorter album in there. No one complains about his live shows back then.
Liking the film as a film (rather than purely from a LOOK IT'S PRINCE AND I LOVE HIM point of view)is pretty impossible.

Besides the obvious reasons, the thing that I disliked about it was it shit on Purple Rain. It was touted as a sequel and it seemed like all the successes of Rain was dismissed. Morris was last seen in Purple rain, jammin to Prince's performance. But in Bridge, he and Prince are once again competitors (even worse) as if shit didnt happen previously. Yes, Billy was supposed to have died (right? I havent watched it in over a decade or so) so things may have been up in the air. But Rain made it seem like Prince would be on to bigger successes, not vying for "they keys locks and all" of some funky assed club. And Ingrid was supposed to be the "3 fine" sex symbol in place of Appolonia? GTFOOHWTBS. Overall, they made it seem like Purple Rain didnt happen. "Climb in my fur."

I really dislike the set of the movie.
It is very dark and gloomy.
You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

Well thank goodness Graffit Bridge is one of those flops that got swept under the rug. Most people in the mainstream don't know about it enough and Purple Rain still remains s classic. Thank God.

If you can't be nice to someone on the net, you probably ain't worth much talking to in real life either.

Movie - Cinematic bile.
Era - Average.
Album - Prince tracks are cool, the rest is a waste of disc space.

I like Graffiti Bridge!
It's a unique concept, that fails at ever truly making sense, YET still makes some sort of sense. We know that 'LOVE' is a theme that is very strong. It's just a movie you get or don't! I happen to get it! It's Button Therapy, Baby!

So the people who dislike it (and for good reason) "dont get it"? "Climb in my fur."

I don't like the album at all.
3 Songs I Love: The Question Of U, Thieves In The Temple, Still Would Stand All Time 2 Songs I Kinda Like: New Power Generation, Joy In Repetition + I Like Tevin's song.
The rest of the album I don't like very much. I liked his look during this era, though.
I should mention I never seen the whole movie. I didn't really like PR (the movie), and I skimmed through this one and it looked even worse, so I never bothered.

I love the Prince songs on the soundtrack.
And the movie sucks ass, but like I always say, it's still worth watching just to stare at Prince and Ingrid Chavez, alone. Throw in the performances and really it's not a total waste of time. But there's definitely better Prince movies if that's what you're after ("Under the Cherry Moon"). 비

I don't like the movie, but the album is beyond brilliant. I place it in the same league as SOTT and Lovesexy. In fact, it's basically Lovesexy, Part II.

the album and era a great, only the song and movie suck

The movie is a friggin car crash & one of the biggest blunders in prince's career. Actually not movie, hour long music video w really bad acting in-between is what it really is. Lost him millions of dollars and a shit load of fans as well as faith from Warners that he would ever deliver a successful film project ever again For these reasons I find it pretty hard to like. I don't care how cool he looked ( and he did in this era) the whole production is an embarrassment. The only way I could ever derive enjoyment from watching it is on a wow this is so bad level and just laugh at how awful it is. But at the same time I'd be cringing really hard throughout cause i actually feel abit sorry for prince when he's trying to make this serious artistic statement and yet coming off like Ed Wood at the same time! before I saw the film I owned the album for years & used to look at the sleeve pictures and think wow this movie looks cool! The album is a bit of a waste too as there are only a few good prince tracks on there and the rest is mostly just filler. Thank god he did a decent tour that year to make up for that abortion of a movie. In all 1990 was not a very good year for prince as he fell pretty far that year. For all the above reasons I find it hard to like this era as he seemed to be working so hard and yet all we got out of it were maybe 6,7 good songs and some good photos cause he looked cool? It could have been so much more.

I also liked Graffiti Bridge. I thought Prince & Ingrid were cute together being the same size. I liked most of the music also. OK, the acting needed some work, but I liked the idea of him meeting an angel, call me Yes, I have to admit, I Prince's look during this movie. Have u had your + sign today?

I have seen worse films. I have watched GB several times over the years. There are some cringe worthy parts, but there are parts that make me laugh (on purpose), and I like the message of the film, even if it could have been delivered/executed better. The only thing I don't like about the era are the first fifteen or twenty minutes of the Nude Tour, when Prince's great songs are distorted by house music. I hate house music. But, after that opening, I like the rest of the Nude Tour, especially the La Coruna show.

It's as cheesy as hell and, as someone has already pointed out, unzips its trousers and pisses all over the memory of Purple Rain. Possible a bloody, infected piss. Anyhoo... it does have some lovely moments in it (again cheesy as fuck): is she too fine, no she's three fine; if you want something done, you've got to hire good people to do it; posing by the porsche; the use of Debussy's Danse Sacree/Danse Profane; .... and that's about it.
I would have much rather seen the original movie. AND I would have much rather have had the movie produced by a Prince who wasn't battling both WBros and his internal 'Lovesexy' conscience over the 'failure' of the American leg of the tour. If Prince would have stuch to his guns, ignored the voices in his head/the empty seats at his concerts, and told WBros to back off, Graffiti Bridge could have been a fun film. he didn't/couldn't/wouldn't.... it sucked/sucks/will suck.
BUT. It has Joy In Repetition, A Question of U; Elephants and Flowers and Still Would Stand All Time... magnificent chunes all!
AND... it has Love Machine, Tick, Tick, Bang and Release It... all wonderful noises and guilty, guilty pleasures all (if only for the trailer.... "The Kings has arrived..... Well, we all know who the Queen is...." FUNNY!)

You know what? I noticed that too, that they're pretty similar. But I've always liked the GB soundtrack way more. To me it sounds more 'together' than Lovesexy, for a lack of a better way to put it. Like Lovesexy was the brainstorming and rough draft and Graffiti Bridge is the final product or something. 비
