North Sea Jazz Festival 2011 Question

I've had my eye on the NSJ 2011 collection for a while, and I am quite impressed with the set list. However, before I invest my time and energy into obtaining this boot, I have to ask a question: Was this the Prince and Andy Show, or was this a real Prince concert?

I ask this because I obtained the Ghent 2011 show at the recommendation of several Orgers, and honestly, I couldn't figure out what all the hype was about. In fact, I found many parts of it to be downright awkward. I am not an Andy-hater--I actually dig HER album and her solo performances that I've seen on YouTube. It's just that I don't think she is a good fit with the NPG, and since Prince has been putting her front and center at these recent concerts, the shows' overall chemistry has been a bit off in my opinion.

On the other hand, I absolutely loved the W2A shows, especially the NJ/NYC leg. I thought those were quite incredible, especially at this stage in his career.

That said, were the NSJ 2011 shows more of the Prince and Andy Revue, or were they true Prince performances?

ABSOLUTELY NO SOLICITING FOR BOOTLEGS.You want to discuss them? That's fine - but NO OFFERS TO COPY, NO REQUESTS TO COPY, NO "WHERE CAN I GET", etc. NO POSTING OF LINKS TO THESE SITES EITHER. Please be aware that the moderators here strictly enforce this rule.

Where in my post do I say I paid for the boots? And where in my post do I say that I am talking about CDs? The answer is NOWHERE on both fronts. Do you have an actual response to my originally posted question, or are you just trolling these threads to make ASSumptions?

For the rest of the Orgers, can someone who has seen these shows give me their honest opinon?

If you're talking about videos... I THINK I downloaded those, watched them and then deleted them. I've done that with most of the DVDs that were produced in 2010 and 2011. Not always because the songs or performances are bad, and not always because of low quality production values - usually it's a combination of all three. Anyway, for whatever reason, if we're talking about the same show, I didn't find it worth keeping. I have a lot of stuff now, though, so I'm picky about what I keep.

....I realize that wasn't really much help. Sorry. lol

It helps a lot actually. I feel the same way. I have downloaded so many Prince boots, that I have to be very selective about what I spend my time downloading, sometimes converting, burning, then watching. Before I embark on this process, I just want to make sure it is worth my time. I felt like I wanted my time back after watching that Ghent 2011 video. So I do thank you for your input.

i am sorry but i dont know what you mean by Andy shows....The north sea jazz shows were some of the best he has ever done....3 different shows with more interesting setlist compared to the shows he has done in New York....So if you want the best shows of 2011 better get this set.....biggrin

YES, I think NSJ is worth your time & energy.... Lot's of different songs and lot's of energy (maybe not the first night but definitely the 2 others) very different from the W2A shows

I think it's worth it, especially Nite 2 which still stands as one of the best quality audience filmed concerts I have ever seen by any artist, I deleted the other two shows as I have them all on audio and only wanted one show on video.

If by an "Andy show" you mean does she sing a couple of songs? Yes she does, but she is no more prominent than Shelby or the other ones who have invaded the stage over the last couple of years. These are Prince concerts, and Nite 2 is amazing quality with almost non existent camera shake from it's multiple angles.

NSJ was great in many ways.

U should see it as a whole divided over three nights.

Nite 2 was for sure the best. Especially the first hour.

Andy was his muse during these days. So she's everywhere in his energy.

NSJ shows are really great, especially the second and the last show.

Yes, she sings some songs in the shows, but it's not a lot and it fits perfectly with the show.

So I went ahead and downloaded Nights Two and Three. They were awesome shows. Definitely worth it. And the Andy Factor wasn't as prominent as on other shows I've seen. Thanks again folks!
