What's your best Prince song and album? And why? What's your least favorite song and album and why?

So what's your favorite song and album? And why? What's your least favorite song and album and why?

Guidelines: Studio releases from 1978 - 2001 only and songs that Prince was the original singer (example-Prince singing Nothing compares 2U isn't applicable).

Please chime in and let me know what you like and or didn't like.

Oh and Happy New Year!!

favorite song: adore because it's one of the first prince songs i remember loving and it's just perfect from beginning to end, imo. great lyrics, beautifully sung and great music cool

favorite album: sign o the times because i just love every song on it and i can still play it (after about a million times) and still love every moment touched

least favorite song: pheromone because it annoys the hell out of me. the lyrics are just weird (i like freaky, just not my cup of tea) and the chorus stinks.

least favorite album: i wanna say 20ten. i LOVE sticky like glue and future soul song but most of the rest is just meh bored2.

For all time I am with you, you are with me.

Favorite song: Little Red Corvette

Why: It's quintessential Prince

Favorite album: Sign O The Times

Why: Some of his best songwriting, melodies and beats all in one great looking package.

Least favorite song: Diamonds And Pearls

Why: Over-the-top schmaltzy attempt at radio play. The complete opposite of why I like Prince.

Least favorite album: Planet Earth

Why: Music to kill kittens by.

Fav album: Parade

Why: I'm in love with this album and always have been, there isn't a single thing I don't like about the album, the music, the look, the era. If the hole in the middle was bigger, I'd stick my hmm-hmmm in it.

Fav song: Ronnie Talk 2 Russia

Why: It has an energy rarely displayed in Prince's music. I love these oddity tracks on albums, they're like little hidden gems.

Worst album: MPLSound

Why: It took a decade, but Prince finally made a record that was even worse than Rave, congrats.

Worst song: Dunno

Why: I really don't like most/a lot of Rave, Musicology, 3121, MPLSound, so pick any of the doody tracks from those albums.

Favorite album is The Black Album.

Why?

Because Black is bad, and bad music is good.

Least favorite is 20Ten.

Why?

Because it's a 90% instantly forgettable fake plastic turd.

Fav album - Symbol Album. I was introduced to Prince with Purple Rain and loved his stuff with the Revolution. I still bought his stuff afterwards from Sign-Diamonds but when the Symbol album came out I was blown away and became a die hard fan. I went to this show and saw him live for the first time and still to this day it is my favorite tour he has done. That cd does it for me everytime.

Fav Song - Peach - This songs just kicks some serious bootay!! LOVE IT!!

Least Favorite album - Take your pick from NewPowerSoul, MPLSsound, 20ten, news, xpectatation, musicology. These are used for coasters now

Least favorite song - everybody loves me. chessiest song I have ever heard in my life. Its makes me cringe.

This somehow escaped from 'Planet Earth.' I can't say it's the cheesiest, but it is cringe-inducing.

I would skip it if I weren't alone.

Favorite album: Four disc Crystal Ball. From the raw of Cloreen Bacon Skin, to the genius head trip title track it's a Prince exploration of R&B. The production is uneven and taken individually, some of the songs aren't all that but I enjoy it.

Least: Planet Earth I like the sentiment of the title track but Prince should have been able to do more. The rest of the songs sound like he knew he would be giving it away. 'Guitar' and 'Chelsea Rodgers' are listenable, neither is that satisfying. Nothing I'd ever go looking for to listen to.

Favorite song: Open Book. Have to list Adore, it's more than #2. Both because I relate to the first and the second is so inextricably woven into my life, from the first time I heard it.

Least favorite song: Quite a few. Most of Planet Earth, Jughead, 3121 (just the song, love the rest of the album)

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Why only up to 2001?

I'm going to ignore that guideline.

Favorite Song: Sometimes It Snows In April

Why: I can relate to it. It makes me sad and happy.

Favorite Album: Emancipation

Why: About 15 songs I love; 30 I like - that's more than any other Prince album. I'm not really sure if that's actually my favorite album - I've never loved any Prince album start to finish, so I just picked the album with the largest number of high points.

Least Favorite Song: Rich Friends

Why: The lyrics, music, vocals all = ill

Least Favorite Album: The Black Album

Why: Not memorable for me. I rarely feel the desire to listen to it. Don't hate it, though.

Crystal Ball is a good pick for favorite album, especially including The Truth. There's a lot of songs I like on the album, but I don't think it flows well from song to song. I wouldn't ever want to play it start to finish.

Planet Earth made me a fan. I bought it a few days after it came out and loved it. I certainly don't think it's one of his best, but it connected with me at the time. If nothing else, I think "Somewhere Here On Earth" is his best song of the past decade.

Good choice but its odd..i find "little red corvette" the LEAST quinessential Prince song (out of his classic catologue" to me it sounds like a very very very clever song..but not really"prince".it sticks out like a sore thumb to me

Favorite song: Adore. I'm not even the kind of guy that listens to a lot of romantic songs but everything about this song is top-notch: the melody, the vocals and the theme.

Favorite album: Sign O The Times. When it comes to favorite Prince album I usually go back and forth between SOTT and Purple Rain but it's usually SOTT. It's such a diverse album, it sounds experimental and it succeeds. It has truly stood the test of time.

Least favorite song: Da Da Da. The music in this song feels like nonsense, that's all I have to say.

Least favorite album: For You. It was Prince's debut album and it shows. Aside from Soft And Wet, which is really good, he needed more time to develop his talent. His development was quick because his next album, the self-titled one, was significantly better, and the album after that, Dirty Mind, is almost a masterpiece. And that was only two years after For You.

Fav Album: Parade - I just love love love love this album. I never skip any songs while hearing this album. The European feel to it is just mmm..

Fav song: Shockadelica. Its just pure funk.. No pure art.

Least fav song: All The Midnights In The World. I can't listen to that song. I think its the beginning of the song. But I do think it's one of the few songs of Prince I just can't listen 2.

Least fav album: Planet Earth. Its not that I don't like the music on it but the lyrics and singing ruins it for me.

Adorecream

Best Song: Adore - the high quality soulful singing, the melody, the sincerity and the sheer vocal power along with the Princely humor and sexual shtick. Its just genius forever.

Best Album: Sign o the Times - yes I know its a cliche, but the album is just brilliant one well written song after another, plus great melody, musicality, rhythm and the absolute diversity of styles that are covered with ease and skill. He reaches back into his influences and carries forward musical signatures that have influenced many artists since. Its just a piece of art. Disc 2 is better than 1 though as Dorothy Parker and Slow Love let the side down a bit, Disc 2 is no skipper and Adore is on it too, but think about it, Sign, Adore, Play in the sunshine, It, If I was ur girlfriend, ICNTTPOYM, The Cross, Beautiful Night, 4eva in my life and Housequake on the same album - wow

Worst Song: Family name - devoid of any musicality, weak beats, Prince on Autotune and a load of anti semitic guff, self indulgent beats and religious bigotry (Close was Deconstruction and Mr Happy). Jughead is sheer genius next to this shite.

Worst Album: The Rainbow Children - Is anyone surprised, lack of originality, bigotry to the extreme, weak songwriting, phone in beats, cheap feel, ridiculous Darth Vader God voice and lack of singles or catchy songs (The catchiest has stolen its melody from Erotic city) and a lot of racist, homophobic, sexist and racist drivel. Some people really love it, but I can not understand why. It shows us how far his career had hit the doldrums by this stage

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

My favourite song: Little Red Corvette - Because it's so perfect musically and lyrically. It's Prince at his best. I could listen to this song all day, he could play it at every single concert and I'd never get sick of it. It's so versatile, it can be interpreted in so many ways. It can be a dance track, it works as a rock track, it even works when you slow it down and turn it into a ballad.

My favourite album: Around The World In A Day (1999 comes soooo close) because I love every song and can always listen to the album from start to finish. I find it to be a really cheerful album to listen to.

My least favourite song: I wish I could say 1999 (The New Master) because that is the biggest piece of shit that I've ever had the misfortune of hearing. But I suppose that isn't considered an original song. Other than that I don't really have a least favourite album

My least favourite album: Don't really have one

Why: The emotion that he puts into this song is mind blowing

Favorite Album: Love symbol album

Why: First Prince album I heard, and I immediately became a fan.

Least Favorite Song: If Eye Was the Man in Ur Life (Musicology) / Freaks on This Side (New power soul)

Why: Everything about it sad

Least Favorite Album: New power soul

Why: Apart from "The One" and "Come on", every thing else is way below par IMO.

Adore - "...well, maybe not the ride." Such an incredible song. I really agree with you for the way Prince sings it never going over the top.

20ten - I concur, not very good. I think Prince was trying to make music in the anticipation of what music may sound like six to eight years from now (hey, Im trying to give him some credit) but over all really eally bad cd.

Lil' Red 'vette - One of his best. Not the single version but the album version. A few songs around that area emulated this keyboard style. Money changes everything and Time after Time (Lauper). Even Glamorous by Fergie has that keyboard sound. I also love the 12 inch version (I miss those days). Diamonds and Pearls has great lyrics but sounds like a G-rated Disney love song.

Planet Earth - the only song I really like "Mr. Goodnight" everything else could have been left in the vault...forever.

Ronnie Talk To Russia - I usta play this to death!! None of my friends cared for this song. I loved the lead in erratic drums sounding like maching guns. the twisted guitar effects straight into the song (precursor to the guitar intro of When Doves Cry (favorite of mine).

MPLSound kinda a tie for me with New Power Soul.

Favorite Song: 'Sexy Dancer': because it's one of the first prince songs I remember hearing and wanting to dance to.

Favorite Album: 'For You': because it's the BEGINNING of everything for P's career and the START of something GREAT.

Least Favorite Song: 'There's Others Here with Us' ... I usually like strange and eerie things but, this song is like nails on a chalk-board for me.
Least Favorite Album: Hmm ... First album off the top of my head, I USED TO SAY 'Chaos & Disorder' and that's becuz I knew it was a Vault album. Now, I don't say that. Bottom-Line: I don't have a Least Favorite Album, I love em all ...

Favorite song: Crystal Ball

Because it's the most crazy song of all.

Least favorite song: Adore

Because it's an insincere love song. It's the song that guys sing to girls they wanna have sex with. Not the ones they are in love with. I think it's foolish to consider this song 'romantic'.

Favorite album: doubt between Sign "O" The Times, Dirty Mind and 3121

Be cause those three have a perfect theme, perfect mood, perfect harmonies, perfect everything... except Adore. And Slow Love. barf

Least favorite album: Newpower Soul

Because it's generic soul and R&B. I like Come On, The One and Wasted Kisses though.

Sexy Dancer has one of the best piano solos. Ever so fitting to the song's title. The album that got me into Prince was Dirty Mind concise, following a theme with song of the most original music ever. I say that because it prompted me to listen to earlier material by Prince, hence Prince-For You, which I played to death. Yes if you measure it today it's outdated and somewhat erratic but imagine hearing it the first time as a new release truly incredible. The bass riff from Just as Long as We're Together. Prince "reused" for alphabet street.
