Who Would You Want to Produce Prince I`ve been a fan for a while now and am getting to the point where I`m pleased to hear a new Prince album but anticipate that while it`ll have a couple of good songs, it won`t have anything that really blows my mind or really emotes anything in me.
With that in mind, I really believe Prince as an artist would benefit from working with someone who could give him a hand with how he writes, composes, arranges, and produces his songs.
Anyhow, who do you think would be a good match for Prince?

Rick Rubin, Trent Reznor, or 2uestlove "Climb in my fur."

Other than myself ha ha, I think rick rubin would be good. He dosent really have a sound, he just sort of helps artist realize what was great about what they did that made them great. I also think a collaboration between prince and jam and lewis might not be a bad match. Most things that I worry about, never happen anyway

Rick Rubin would be pretty dope... The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

I'm not sure I actually want someone else to produce his music.
I do, however, think he needs to connect with another strong collaborator. He hasn't really worked closely at all who had creative input in a long time. In the past we had Wendy & Lisa and Levi. And people like Morris Day and Sheila E along the way. Ricky P. polished up a lot of the 94/95 stuff. Kirky J... well, nevermind, that's the exception that proves the rule.
But he hasn't had anyone with that kind of hand in the creative process for a long time. Someone to bounce off of, to outdo, to take the dreck to the next level with another idea. But that's what he gets, I guess, for surrounding himself with session players and yes-men who work cheap.

Rick Rubin, but I hear he is pretty choosy and expensive.

Rick Rubin certainly sounds like a good choice...
What do you guys and gals think of Daniel Lanois?
I can`t imagine Questlove knowing what to do with Prince - truth be told, I don`t think Questlove has produced a record that anyone really wants to hear.
I like the idea of Trent Reznor as well...
Wendy and Lisa, mainly Wendy, also sounds like a good place for Prince to go to...
The music needs a kick in the pants!

If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

He doesn't need a producer. He just needs some suits to tell him "Uh... no." If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Either a time machine and get a young Prince to do it, or hypnotise/regress him to a younger age and then get hom to produce? Look in to my eyes, look into my eyes, don't look around the eyes... Comin str8 outta Preston...

I would quite like Joshua Homme to get a hold of a Prince chune... or Bowie's old producer... is it Tony Visconti...?
I know it's the name we should not mention, but SUSAN ROGERS! ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH even though, according to Barney Hoskyns, she doesn't know anything about Prince's music... according to Prince...
I would love to hear the noise that Prince and Terence Trent D'Arby made in the studio. That would be fun.
How about Prince Paul... that would be a fun collabortion too... if he could get a hold of a bunch of Princely 'rap' tracks or simple Prince tunes, I think he could have some fun adding some daisy to them... remember the dais in Prince's hat during The Beautiful Experience?

Rick Rubin. Prince recent albums are good, but too over polished for my taste - I think Rick could bring out the raw Prince. Still Prince is good enough to do what he wants.

Or Femi Jiya, again. He makes Prince nice noise.

Anyone who can get him to make a minimalist style rock record with the Revolution, or better yet, with The Rebels. He should do it while he's still got it in him to do it.

No one really, but if I have 2 chose I'd say Bill Laswell. doesn't need a conventional R&B or a pop/rock producer: he can do whatever they can do. What would be interesting is someone who, like Laswell, could take him to real new musical territories.
