And perhaps you (y-o-u) don't get it that after 34 years, quite a few find that notion stale. There are numerous examples of an outside producer bringing new life to an artist's work. An argument can be made that Prince's by the numbers sound of recent years could use the influence of another.

The most important person is an artist world...................is himself. (from a creative standpoint)

Sure... but recognize that Prince, like most musician artists, surrounds himself with musicians who have a different feel to mkaing sounds with their instruments. Here's an example: the bass line from The One was most certainly something Prince wasn't doing - that was the influence of Rhonda Smith and one of her styles of playing bass.

Chronic Freeze's drum programming on Come gives a lot of those songs an extra kick in the ass - it was fresh hearing those songs back then. They still sound amazing.

Prince needs a hand - he's bored and been doing the same thing for over thirty years. He's hitting a wall and many of us can hear it.

Bored....and controlled by his religious beliefs.

Nigel Godrich. Prince needs someone that will respect his sound, but yet at the same time call him out on his shit. (It worked when Paul Mccartney needed a kick in the ass!) His current records sound so lazy and uninspired lately. Take for example his vocal work in the past decade. Where are the beautiful background harmonies and multitracked lead vocals? I mean, our introduction to him as an artist was with a heavenly accapella. And now all we get is that weird loud atonal thing he does (i.e. extralovable 2011). But i digress, I don't ever see that or any other similar situation happening however. In the beginning God made the sea, and on the seventh day, he made P. Prince is too self righteous to ever admit any mistakes, or to acknowledge when he's fallen off the bandwagon and needs some major work to get back on track.

U guys just don't seem 2 get it after 34 years.

ONLY Prince can produce Prince.

Its not too far fetched an idea. He kind of did it with Madonna and Meshell, Wendy and Lisa didnt he? Sent tapes etc. Isnt that relinquishing control and doing things differently for him?

They're in the same boat as Prince. They need to hire producers too.

I don't think anybody should produce Prince. He knows what to do. He's just being lazy* right now. rolleyes

*Actually, he's been lazy since he freed himself from his record contract. Perhaps his contract wasn't giving him the money and rights he wanted, but it was good for us fans because WB forced him to release solid material regularly and actually promote it. When he became an indie musician, he kinda stopped caring about his fans because he was so happy with all the dough that was rolling in. To sit on tons of great music because of internet pirating is quite possibly the most selfish thing ever (and I'm a musician who hates pirating just as much as he does). And to jack up the ticket prices for the majority of your concerts to car-payment, mortgage-payment levels is just greedy. I say it with love though.

Butch Vig was the producer of two of my favorite albums, Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins and Nevermind by Nirvana. He was also the drummer for Garbage. Oh yeah, he also produced the Foo Fighters last album which sounded incredible for being recorded in Grohl's garage.

I`ve been a fan for a while now and am getting to the point where I`m pleased to hear a new Prince album but anticipate that while it`ll have a couple of good songs, it won`t have anything that really blows my mind or really emotes anything in me.

With that in mind, I really believe Prince as an artist would benefit from working with someone who could give him a hand with how he writes, composes, arranges, and produces his songs.

Anyhow, who do you think would be a good match for Prince?

All u haters need to recognize, if u cant c right through these lies, good gawd!

Yeah, tell Peter Cottontail to come on in. I'd rather see them produce Prince than anyone else. The reason I still buy Prince these days is to get music that is absolutely nothing like music from today's artists which I absolutely can't stand and despise. It pisses me off when he himself makes something that sounds similar to what they're making so to have someone else produce him would help him to sound even more like them and when he starts fully sounding like today's artists like Ronald Isley and Charlie Wilson does, I'll drop his ass like a hotcake.

I was going to be a smart ass and say, me! lol But that's actually a damn fine list. I can get with that. A lot of the other names being mentioned do too much to change the sound of the artists they work with. Prince just needs somebody who is willing to say no once in a while, or suggest that maybe he try something else. Dude doesn't need someone to change him.

i agree that Prince is capable of making a better record than 20ten and that having a good producer will benefit him. However people who are expecting another sign o the times are IMO unrealistic.

What Prince surrounds himself with shifts with the wind. Remember the all vegetarian band phase? Is that still in effect? sad
