Prince's Children's Album "Happy Tears"

I saw couple of references in some older posts here to an unreleased Prince album called "Happy Tears," that was connected to his infamous "Muppets Tonight" appearance. More info from Wikipedia:

”With the pregnancy of Prince‘s then-wife Mayte Garcia, Prince was inspired to make and announce a children’s music album called Happy Tears, credited to Prince and Mayte. The album was supposed to have been released on November/1996. The album was going to include a book of children’s stories with it. To promote the album, Prince guest-starred on the show Muppets Tonight, and performed the only song confirmed that would have been included on the album, “She Gave Her Angels“, which remained unreleased until inclusion on the “Crystal Ball” set. The album was likely cancelled due to Prince’s son Gregory‘s passing one week after birth.”

“And now I’d like 2 turn your heart
2 a tale of sheer delight
A song of adulation, love and fear
No one loved him better
No one better sacrificed
She gave her angels that summer night

Fate as she designed it
Took her from her man
Destiny and love don’t always go hand in hand
As the world lay waiting
Like an embryo in a womb
She gave her angels that night in June

She gave her angels 2 her man
Because her man had none
2 watch over him ’til he returned…
Her man, her lover, her son, her father
4 all these things he meant 2 her
She felt it right
She gave her angels that summer night”

Other than "She Gave Her Angels" has anything else surfaced from this project?

I don't know if Song Of The Heart was aimed at kids, or everyone, but it is so funky, and I really liked She Gave Her Angels, I would imagine that a 'Childrens' album would have been out of this world good.

I thought "A Place In Heaven" was supposed to be on it, too. Don't remember where I read that.

TBH, if we put aside all sentimentality, I can only imagine how drippy and forgettable such an album would be.

I'm sure it would be. On the other hand, the one song that we know that was on it was one of his best songs from the Emancipation-era sessions that we've heard.

That would have killed his career quicker than NPS and Doug E did

I wonder if the remake of Starfish & Coffee was intended for this album? He should release it, along with so many other abandoned projects. Maybe he could send some of the tracks to Yo Gabba Gabba wink
