Least favorite song: "Animal Kingdom"

Why?: Truly terrible. There were several times in the 90s when Prince almost lost me.This was one of those moments.

Least favorite album: Chaos And Disorder

Why?: It's unfocused and uninspired. It sounds like a mediocre Lenny Kravitz album.

Favorite song: "Automatic"

Why?: It's edgy, adventurous and just alot of fun. When the first few seconds begin, you know you're in for a wild journey....fasten your seat belts, prepare for takeoff.....indeed! lol

Favorite album: 1999

Why?: It's his masterpiece.Funk,New Wave,pop,rock....it's all there.

Another gem from 1999.Excellent use of the Linn, mechanical almost hypnotic melody. I love how it changes at 6:42 then 7:52 then 7:58 and 8:29 and 8:40. I really believe that the original placement of this was as a lead-in to International Lover. On your ipod set it up that way and it really flows.

I thought it was brilliant but not the masterpiece but very close. At this time I still believed that Dirty Mind was his masterpiece and with his vast catalog I still would place it in the top four of his best albums.

Animal Kingdom UGH I forgot how much I hated this bile, this and If I were a dolphin (YUCK!!!)

Chaos and Disorder is pretty bad. Only three songs for me have any merit. I Will, Into the Light and Had U (rip off of a NIN track). Other than that, this CD should be used to slice cheese, 'cause it's bad.

This question is pretty awkward considering we can only use releases from 1978 - 2001.

Nevertheless..I'll do it anyways.(Just for the heck of it..lol)

Best Prince Song: Power Fantastic (It's just THAT song that explains 'THIS'. It's dreamy, very beautiful and just one of the most amazing things I ever heard. It summarizes why I admire Prince and his work.

Best Album: LOVESEXY (The positivity in this album is sexual, quirky, loud, and just beautiful! Everything about it comes together and makes LOVESEXY really make no sense, yet have a clear meaning. I would also have to say 'SOTT' runs very close with 'Lovesexy'. The pattern he was on just makes no sense yet it does? lol

Least Favorite Song: 'Everyday Is A Winding Road' It's HORRIBLE! O my goodness, it's a mess that does nothing and goes no where. WHAT WAS HE THINKING? That's just it! He wasn't thinking..lol

Least Favorite Album: It's hard to judge his albums as a whole, because for me at least 2 songs make the album worth a listen? I guess I will have to go with NewPower Soul? But I love half the album, the rest is just -_-

Haha

The Power Fantastic is good but I never could really get into it. I will give it another listen.

Everyday Is a Winding Road. This is a prime example of lazy recording studio effort. Just poor.

New Power Soul for me ties with Chaos and Disorder.

Best Prince album: Purple Rain. It has all the elements that I enjoy about Prince (tight album, all killers no fillers, variety, visionary production). Even if I wasn't a Prince fan, I would own this album because it's just the best album of the 80s (or at least the mid-80s)

Best Prince song: 1999. Can't really say why. This song "IS" Prince. Can't really say more.

Worst Song: too many. That's one of the fascinating things about Prince. He has like 200 amazing songs, but also 50 (or more) pathetic songs which, nevertheless, are so bad/freaky/misguided/wtf that are also worth checking out. Prince has released +50 bad songs, probably, but only 8-10 truly boring tracks.

Least favorite album: NEWS. Back in 2003, I thought it was the end. Prince doing instrumental jazz albums???? Wow. What a nightmare. And the album is just forgettable. Nothing special. Just a second-rate Madhouse-like album released by Prince, just as NPS was a second-rate NPG album released by Prince.

I think Purple Rain is a masterpiece but I cant stand it. Because it's that cd/album collection of songs that everyone knows and can sing word for word but have no clue that Prince has several cd's preceeding it or didn't bother checking out his other stuff. I speak of the fan(s) that only have the hit album and says he's/she's a fan because of it. "I love AC/DC - I have back in black. Or I love Rush I have moving pictures. Did you know that's the one with Timmy Sawyer on it?"

I went to a party once and they had 35 cd's on the shelf. And each cd was like the most popular or the crossover cd of that artist or group. The Eagles Hotel California, Garth Brooks 7, TLC Crazy Sexy, cool. Led Zepplin IV and Prince - Purple Rain. I asked why she didnt have 1999. Her response, "This is the only good one. With 1999 being his first, I figured I would just have this. It has all of his hits on it. When doves cry, Purple Rain, Take me...." You get the picture. And this is why I don't really care for Purple Rain. I don't even have it on my iPod.

Everyday Is a Winding Road. This is a prime example of lazy recording studio effort. Just poor.

New Power Soul for me ties with Chaos and Disorder.

REALLY? faint How could you NOT get into 'Power Fantastic' after the first listen? Haha. I remember hearing it on my back from picking up some sea food for a date with my girl; while in New Orleans. I had my head phones on, and I said what is this 'Power Fantastic??' I forgot I had it on m ipod, and never listed to it. SO I played it and did not say anything, after it was finished. I was left speechless, literally crying before I made through the door. I had to put that song on repeat. Granted at this time it was a hard time in my life, but that song just explains everything to me. Haha.

Everyday Is Winding Road is JUST as bad as 'Baby Knows'. Baby Knows is more bearable. But it's so lack luster, and too much is going on. It's horrible! One of his weakest efforts for sure!

WHAT??? faint I never understood, and still can't understand the dislike for 'Chaos & Disorder' I think it's AWESOME!!! Tracks like: Into The Light/ I Will, Dinner With Delores, The Same December? THE ONLY tracks I can't stand is: I Rock, Therefore I Am, and Right The Wrong. Everything else is pretty good! I play it often, BUT my favorite track on that album and one of the best from the 90's is 'Into The Light/I Will'. I love this spiritual Prince, when he said things that made you think, also with a guitar that just takes it there.

NewPower Soul has a few good songs, only 3 for me. BUT The horns in this album are slamming! smile But as a whole it fails considerably bad.

It's Button Therapy, Baby!

I like Power Fantastic, but it's not one I listen to often.

I've never been able to get into Lovesexy, however. shrug The music, lyrics - nothing about the album connects with me.

I don't mind 'Everday is a Winding Road' boxed as a dance music cover, it's good enough, but he changes some lyrics to suit his beliefs which I didn't like.

Chaos and Disorder is one of my favorite albums of his. It's fun and rockin' the whole way through. I see where people think some of the songs are embarrassing ('I Rock, Therefore I Am'), but the music's great regardless. 'Into The Light' is one of the best songs Prince has ever done. Together with 'The Love We Make', they're my two favorite 'spiritual' Prince songs.

I also like (don't love) Newpower Soul. Which 3 songs do you like question I love 'Mad Sex', 'Come On', 'The One' and 'Wasted Kisses'. I also kinda like 'When U Love Somebody' and 'Shoo-Bed-Ooh'. The rest I could do without - but I still don't hate any of it.

Lovesexy is also a bit of a pain. Like a bad child. The only songs I like are Anna Stesia, When 2R In Love and I wish you Heaven. I also like Positivity (but only the Mavis Staples version).

From The New Power Soul (what was this all about anyway - some light people) The One, Come One and Wasted Kisses. The rest can be donated to the horse glue factory.

omfg Really? Lovesexy is a bitter sweet for some people. I'm surprised nothing connects with you though? lol

WOW! I can not stand 'Everyday is a Winding Road' I had no idea he changed the lyrics, anytime he does that likely will he push the envelope in a bad way

O YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! headbang It's rocking all the way through right? I love it! I am glad you find Into The Light as one of his best songs, it really is. It is one with 'I Will'. The Love We Make is really incredible! "Sacred is the prayer that asks for nothing" You can't get any better than that!

AND Surprisingly the songs you listed are the same for me. smile The title track 'NewPower Soul' is a great track! I love the melody and those horns are so good. Mad Sex, Come On, (The One (Although I feel it gets too long..lol) Shoo-Bed-Ooh, When U Love Somebody, and of course the hidden track 'Wasted Kisses'. I don't hate it, but it's his weakest album for me. IF I HAD TO PICK one. Haha

Anyone who dosen't like Adore, to me is not a true fan, I mean honestly talk about extreme with cream. What is there not to like, not every song has to be a sincere and true love offering. We all like it because its well written, funky, groovy and a lot of fun.

I know I am being harsh, but honestly this cat should turn his/her card in.

Oh please.

I don't remember ever hearing about any rule about "A True Prince Fan Must Like Everything Everyone Thinks Is Good. Period."

I don't like Little Red Corvette either. (waiting for the bricks...) not to say it's a bad song, just can't see what's so great about it... Same for Adore.

And it IS insincere love. It's a sex song that's supposed to sound like a love song 'cause that's what people think is what makes woman throw their pussies at guy's cocks. That's what it is.

'True fan'. Gimme a break!

When someone feels strongly about an artist, director et al, He or she may feel that everyone should like a particular piece or work. I really think Dirty Mind is a master piece and I have to hold myself back when someone says NO WAY it's (fill in the blank). Adore is an incredible song, and I cannot for you to think otherwise. But please listen to it again as it's own song and not something dated or it being a Prince song.

As for Little Red Corvette, well again when did you first here it. It's intial release 30 years ago or in the last few years. A great many of his (Prince) song may not seem great now but at the time may have been hot as shit in the summer.

Believe me, I've tried to like Adore, as well as Little Red Corvette.

Let's put it like this, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd time I heard those songs, I didn't like. I thought it was cheesy. And boring. The 4th time I liked. Then the 5th, 6th and so on it was boring again. razz

And it's not because I think it sounds dated, the only thing I think it's dated it's some of the drum machines.

I don't like a LOT of stuff people think it's the best...

- I don't like the guitar solo on Stairway to Heaven, you know, the Led Zeppelin song

- I don't think Revolver is the best Beatles album, I think it's Sgt. Pepper's.

- I don't like Prince's Do Me Baby, Slow Love, Insatiable, Most Beautiful Girl, I think it's too sappy and cheesy.

Well... Thanks for asking me that without being a moron. (differently from some fellas in this tread...) wink

P.S. If anyone else is thinking about answering me again with anoother dissertation about "Why You Are Wrong And I Am Always Right", please stop, don't transform a tread about 'best and least' in something that it isn't.
