You know Im surprised that no one has mentioned the solo from "The War" or from the NPGMC download of the "Days of Wild" jam. Both kick serious purple ass and are at the top of my list. The "Days of Wild" jam is utterly mind blowing and IMHO the best that I have ever heard. I get weak in the knees everytime I hear it. Meanwhile in and of itself, "The War" is 28 minutes of amazing guitar work that is deeply moving. Im telling you the the man is one of the most under rated guitar players in the world. Its too bad that his silly antics over shadow his musical abilities in the eyes of both his fans and the public in general.
Other solos that should be noted: "The Ride" from the Undertaker album, his solo on "The Jam" from the Beautiful Experience concert (that one just kills me), and his solo from the 9 minute "Batdance" remix. My DC Direct wishlist: 1) Bane, 2) Prof Zoom, 3) Superman Blue, 4) Kilowag, 5) Parasite

"Computer Blue" (the long 11 minute version)
"America" (the 12 inch version) LOVE it when he says "purple mountains majesty. "only people wit' money can do this dance, Murphdraaaaaag, bankrolls gettin' heavy in my pants"

Small Club as a whole - IMHO - contains his most unbelievable guitar work. That I've heard, anyway. Especially RAVE - un-freakin'believable. Listen to it in the dark, with good headphones w/ the volume turned up...
OMG. | |

I love just about everything already mentioned, but I just listened to the Black Album, and the solos in Rock Hard..., and Cindy C are pretty cool too.

Not the best...but the craziest solo i remember him playing is "SISTER" during the Lovesexy-Tour.
Short, but totally mind-blowing. It was also the loudest guitar solo i've ever heard on a live open-air concert (Frankfurt, Germany August 27 th 1988...unforgettable). My elder brother, who didn't know much about his music at this time, was totally kicked off his socks!! @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

I was watching Prince & The Revolution Live '85 a few days ago and he simply played his heart out on "Purple Rain"
- maybe not one of his best performances of that song; but it's one of the few live version's I've heard which gets me everytime. The way he begins the song playing the same guitar in the "Let's Go Crazy" video - then he switches it for the "White Angel" guitar, aftering disappearing & reappearing in a cloud of smoke. I can still hear the solo...aaahhh*

Also Beautiful Strange from Nighttown blows my mind. It's not technically his best, but the way he attacked the strings... every lick just feels so hard.

My faves:
ICNTTPOYM - Talk about songs that should be a year long. I could listen to that solo go on and on and on...and I love how it's wrapped in a perky boppy pop song. Purple Rain (Final show of the PR tour) - This version brings me to tears every time. Morning Papers - Underrated. Try to forget the video where he's wearing flannel and stagediving, it was the early '90s, he couldn't help it. When he says "shucks" mid-solo, it's just too damn sexy. The Undertaker (the whole damn thing) - Dirty, raw and to the point. Love this stuff to pieces.

All the solo in "small club" , "Bagley's Warehouse 93" , "the Undertaker" , "Emporium 95" "Bataclan 2002" and "Nighttown 2002"...And the guitar work on "the rainbow children" r great!

I'm gonna back Ian - Purple Rain is mind blowing - especially when you consider it's a live take, not done in the studio over and over until he got it right. He was onstage and BAM - blew that sucker outtat there. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3
