I always liked the guitar work in Shhh. The flow between the base and guitar is awesome.

I still stand 98.99% behind the guitar solos on the Prince and the Revolution Live VHS from '85 during Purple Rain.

It's gotta be Purple Rain for me... sorry to be all mainstream biggrin

That said... "I Will" has a beautifully sweet guitar solo...

And "Live 4 Love" has a rocking solo too...

Doh, I thought we were talking about fave solos. Now I see you actually wanted to know about live stuff. I should probably read posts before replying to them (revolutionary idea!!)

Try replicating the solo from the live version of 'Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic' from the mythical Het Paard '88 aftershow and I'll be really impressed.

That's not another name for "Small Club", is it? Because I was just about to say, the solo from "Rave Unto the Joy Fantastic", from Small Club is absolutely jaw-dropping.

Purple Rain is good, but it ain't the greatest, for me.

I agree w/ Ian on "I Will" and "Live 4 Love" though...the guitar is fantastically ornamental and beautiful on the former and blisteringly, shreddingly amazing on the latter.

Oh and ALL the guitar work on TRC is some of the best of his career, especially tracks like "The Rainbow Children" (2nd half), "Family Name" and "Last December".

Prince is my absolute favourite guitarist, with Hendrix a close second and Zappa/BB King tieing third.

Honorable mentions: Computer Blue, Shhh..., Eye Hate U.

And all those phenomenally inventive, little guitar comments he inserts in most of his songs.

Actually, I rarely ever tried to learn Prince's live solos. The main reason was that Prince often improvises a lot of it anyway... so for example I always enjoyed improvising my own solo for "Just My Imagination" with the same key and same scales (mostly) as Prince's solo but feeling my own way through the song rather than parroting Prince's licks.

Check out the solo on THE JAM (Funk National Anthem).

WHOA! It was the bomb for me. Dunno when it was recorded, but Larry Graham is on it... the breaks are phonomenal, the overall vibe of the song is just UNH UNH UNH. Can't get enough of it.

Oh well the song itself isn't that great... it's from the album "Chaos & Disorder". The song is a bit cheesy, but there's some lovely Santana-esque guitar moments towards the end... worth checking out, definitely smile

'Joy in Repetition' for me, has always been his greatest solo on an album. He makes it wail big style!

Also props the New Power Trio on 'The Undertaker'.The whole thing 'Poor Goo' 'Bambi' etc is mindblowingly good.

101

The Undertaker Video; lsten to the Ride & Bambi

I think if that would have been a CD he would have been recognized now as a great guitarist. Now he doesnt even make a top 100 list. Which is incredible.

and did anybody mention the ride on Crystall Ball. I dont understand how u can mention this..this is the worst version i have ever heard from that great song.

I was just watching that and I can't decide if it's poor or amazingly good, if you know what I mean. BTW he doesn't seem to hang with Lenny anymore does he.
