Which Prince song has been "officially" recorded the most times? I got to thinking today-- which song that Prince wrote has been "officially" recorded the most times? I'm not talking cover versions like the Tom Jones/Art of Noise version of Kiss; I mean recordings either by Prince or his stable of artists, or a song given directly by Prince for another artist to record with his blessing.
I could come up with a song that's been recorded at least five different times: If I Love U Tonite.
1. The Rebels version 2. Prince version 3. Mica Paris version 4. Mayte version (English) 5. Mayte version (Spanish)
Not sure if you should count those two as two separate ones or not since they're essentially the same track with different vocals, but still-- that song has been recorded at least four times.
Are there any other Prince-composed songs that have been recorded more than that?

HCUDCM has been done at least twice...Stephanie Mills and Alicia Keys Because of their half-baked mistakes, we get ice cream, no cake; all lies, no truth; is it fair to Kill the YOUTH ~~ Party Up

Surely it's got to be The Most Beautiful Girl In The World, between all of his re-recorded versions for the remixes and the 2 Mayte versions and the two instrumental versions that showed up as b-sides.

Plus I think some French or Japanese girl did an officially sanctioned cover version of it when he was envisioning getting several artists to re-record it in different languages.

I think we have a winner. Can't believe I didn't think of that one.
