Prince's FIRST television preformance Jan 26, 1980

I remember this very day!! I was 17 years old, a senior in high school and sitting in my livingroom, watching American bandstand like I did every Saturday. I had never heard of Prince and I was completely transfixed on this guy! He was so incredibly different- avant garde, really! He wasn't like the black groups of that time. He was punkish, sorta rockist, funky and I fell in love!

I got his first album, "Prince," and then I graduated to his next album..."Dirty Mind," which is probably the most irreverent, sexually explicit- deviant, really- album I had ever heard. Prince made Rick James look like Mr. Rogers. But I loved it!

So...not sure this has already been shown here, but for those who haven't seen it, enjoy! I had the best time going down memory lane!

Yeah it's cool, but as said by IamFunkay, video and audio links of any kind are not allowed.

And, um.....his first album was For You, not Prince.

Don't sweat it. Just click "edit" on the purple bar at the bottom of your first post and then delete the text that contains the link.

Just one more thing. Prince "performed" I Wanna Be Your Lover & Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad on the US tv show "The Midnight Special" earlier that year, before playing the same songs on the American Bandstand appearance.

The television show list showed the American Bandstand show was Dec 16, 1979...not Jan 26, 1980. Does anyone know which is actually is?

The show aired on January 26th, 1980 but was taped in the previous December; here's a picture of the contract: http://twitpic.com/6f5n. Note that he earns $56.35 each time this clip re-airs...

I would like to point out that both his signature and the typed name under the signature line is

Prince ROGER Nelson, just like on the birth certificate. Not RogerS.

Just saying..
