These days he'd make DJ Brother Jules spin Kirk Franklin and Mahalia Jackson records. Just a bunch of church benches where the dancefloor used to be with everyone in them singing "In the Upper Room"

Why should Prince continue on with this tradition?

U know, we all have been hoping 4 prince to have these again, (in mn & surrounding areas...) and i 4 1 would love to attend & be a part of what is paisley park & the best musician (prince) in the world, BUT there was enormous amount of disrespect 4 him bcuz he didnt perform at the last party he had (i 4get when it was, i wasnt there). who can blame him 4 not inviting these type of ppl back into his space. hey, i wouldnt. he DOES have SELF-RESPECT u know! I heard there was a party & prince did show up & sat in the v.i.p/soundstage area of the room. however, 4 some ppl, THAT & dancing in princes space/home wasnt satisfactory. i mean, dont ALL rock stars invite ppl to their dwellings 4 parties 2 dance, & maybe catch a glimpse of them if one is LUCKY??? SHHHURRE they do, they even put on a performance for free or 7.00. YEAH, RIGHT!...i always felt this was sooo cool of PRINCE 2 do this. but he must have got wise. it will be lucky if THERE IS a celebration this yr. i could b wrong as 2 the reason the parties have halted, but man, he HAS to demand some RESPECT from u guys that take advantage. this incident really made me p.o. reading the comments and names he was called that night 4 not performing. what gall! who knows if he's so "fed up" he just closed down the NPGMC & all! maybe he just cant take it any more! why should he? ppl will buy his music, even if he isnt very nice, which he definately HAS been, IMHO. they'll go to his concerts. he'll make money. but the extra's he always gave may be a thing of the past. one can only hope he's just trying to teach the ingrates a lesson. good luck...!!!much love 2 u prince...

I think there is more to the cessation of the parties than Prince merely having a hissyfit because some anonymous people on this website were jerks and called him names, and so now he is trying to "teach them a lesson" by not having parties or by there being no music club. Reducing things down to Prince being vindictive and trying to "teach the ingrates a lesson" seems a bit simplistic and silly to me.

And while I definitely agree with you that people should be more grateful for the opportunity to attend Friday night parties - whether they involve a performance or not - and that people should be more respectful of Prince in how they voice their opinions or dissatisfaction(s), I was at that last party you are refering to and there were some actual reasons people felt a bit played by what went on. The NPGMC website did make a VERY strong indication it was to be a performance, IIRC (I don't have the exact text of the NPGMC blurb about the party) and so that's what most people were expecting.

I just want to say that some people might not realize how lucky there are/were to be able to attend parties at Paisley, and they might take the it all for granted, but I believe those people to just be a loud, rude, vocal minority - most people, I believe, ARE respectful of Prince and grateful for his opening Paisley up the way he did. I think it's wrong to think for even a minute that the absence of Friday night parties could be due to him being mad that a few meanies called him a names. Maybe I'm naive but I give Prince credit for a bit more maturity than that.

As one of those people who was not dancing, I can speak for myself only..

1. I was not feeling well that night
2. I don't normally dance anyway. I enjoy listening to the music, seeing friends, and watching others dance.
3. Paisley was filming the people dancing that night and I felt uncomfortable with that. I am not someone who likes to be "in the spotlight", so to speak, so the cameras there specifically filming the crowd made me shy away.

My not dancing certainly doesn't indicate I was, or am, in any way disrespectful or ungrateful to Prince. Just being able to be at Paisley means so much to me, and I am very appreciative of his opening the studio up to the fans that way.

I didn't dance, because I would have felt stupid dancing and pretending there was a concert happening on an empty stage, so I instead chose to enjoy the company of my friends.

Prince could have easily walked over to the stage, just to get everyone in the mood...I can't pretend to be excited over a concert that isn't happening.

I actually have seen the opinion stated before that the folks who weren't dancing that night at Paisley were being disrespectful since the PP personnel were requesting everyone to get out on the dance floor since they were filming.

I felt a bit guilty for not dancing but... confused

It's interesting how perceptions of what is considered 'respectful' and 'disrespectful' behavior can vary, and what they can be based on.

U make some good points SnowQueen, and one would like 2 think prince can just let "things" roll off his back, making nothing of the crap some fans dish out, but just bcuz he's well known & and very intelligent, doesnt make him insensitive. he is HUMAN after all, and at that particular time in history if i recall right?, he was having issues with the fams buying, & some recording bootlegs. i got the impression he set up the stage & purposely let the visitors drool...i can b wrong on some of this...just my opinion! also, at the time there were tremendous negative discussions taking place here on the org (4 one) about the npgmc's and therefore prince's, disorganized ways of dealing with EVERYTHING it seemed, plus that we werent getting the damn cd's he owed us, the worth of the club, not joinng 4 2003 etc, etc, etc. not 2 mention the discussions of news he posted in paisley news. however, some of this WAS constructive crticism. but there was lots of negativity as well. ppl complained about the cost of his concerts adnauseum, when the stones charge 375.00 for they're front seats, & to me, prince is worth more. (not literally, prince! please dont go there! lol) one could see his irritation in pics, or on stage, as well as sense it. sounchecks were cut short or not done at all. the happiest demeanor he exhibited, imo, was on leno & vegas. (his last performances...) where is he now? has he even made an appearance at any club in mn, toronto or europe? now THAT might signify he's depressed? i sure hope he's ok. I also must admit snowqueen, that as u say, most of his fams do appreciate him. if this IS bothering him, he should just weed out the rotten apples from his "real" admirers. ignore them. remember, he IS a very SPIRITUAL person now & really lives a different way, that makes him happy hopefully. he may not care to be a "party man" any more. plus he just finished doing lots of touring & he DOES need to rest & enjoy a normal life too. Sure, he loves his work, but it IS work none the less! he needs 2 think of himself & his loved ones too, not just pleasing his insatiable fams, however i miss him out & about myself! we'd love him with us ALL the time. EVERYWHERE. being in his space is being happy! one can tell what a wonderful person he really is, what awesome music he plays. how great it makes u feel...he'll be back! he always has! just lets be nicer & more respectful 2 him when it happens ppl, bcuz u never know what u got till it's gone! then it's too late. You make some good points, as well, grandebelle. hug

You're right about how, at the time of that PP party, Prince was getting flak from all sides about different issues. There was a lot of negativity surrounding him at that time. No one can know exactly what it is like to live his life and have to deal with all the various issues he has to. I have no doubts that sometimes it is very, VERY trying and frustrating to be Prince. Unfortunately, there will always be the negative, never satisfied people, or people who have legitimate gripes but would benefit from using a bit of tact and diplomacy in expressing their complaints. That's just a sad fact of life and hopefully Prince has learned to let unavoidable negativity just fall by the wayside. confused

I, too, hope that in the future people will be more sensitive and thoughtful in their words and actions when voicing any opinions or grievances. The world would be a much nicer place if people could treat others with kindness and respect at ALL times.

Hey, I hope this little tidbit will make you feel better about how Prince is doing these days. biggrin I just read this tonight. It's from the NPNY mailing list:

Prince was in NYC last night. Ironically enough, he was at Fez...except it was the Time Cafe in the Village on Lafayette (not Uptown).

Londell McMillan threw a little party with Prince. Not sure exactly what it was for, but it seemed to be more of a networking pre-grammy thing.

I didnt go myself, but I was just talking to a few people who went, and one who sat down and talked to P for a minute. The hosts from BET's 106 & Park were there, etc etc.

Amil

The lack of Friday night parties at Paisley Park in my opinion are not because of his beliefs/studying with JW. Let's remember that Mr. Larry Graham and his wife Tina both have attended the Friday night parties before, and they are JW. I'm sure that JW like to listen to music and have a good time too.

We don't know the reason behind this and will won't ever know unless Prince makes a statement about it and I doubt that will happen. lol I sincerely hope that he is just taking this time to relax and enjoy his life right now. Maybe he is recording some new music, exploring ideas for the club or Celebration,or maybe he is dedicating more time to studying, who truly knows.

I hope that the parties will continue in the future, the majority of people do seem to enjoy them. I also think that Prince is the type of person to overlook a few negative comments that may have been made about the last party.

I wish I could have attended the last party; I would have been dancing all night with you LaV,as well as LadyLove and Gemini that evening.

This was posted by a friend a few mounths back:

This post is not intended for ignorance but merely an opinion concerning the complaining re: the Friday Night Party.

#1 it's a seven ($7) dollar entrance fee thats lower than a dang movie

#2 it's in a place where the sound system pumps and you rarely get to get in2.

#3 it's with people who are seriously in2 the music you are.

#4 whatever happened to the days that people COULDN'T even get n2 paisley and when they could they did't care if anybody played they were happy to be invited into his place?

I think that we have lost sight of the mere fact that whether or not He is there or anybody is there BUT simply that you are there...

Tons of people don't have the opportunity to even GET there so really KIDS B fair...and B happy that you can at least go and CREATE some FUN with the Music that is PUMPIN and have some fun with yourselves in a place most dont even get to GO 2.
rose Too my friend

#4 revisited, I for one have no complaints, never had any!
I used to fly in for Friday night from Detroit every week if they happened but it seamed that most of the complaining was done by Minnesota people who only lived minutes away! guess you guys were a little spolied, huh. I know people that would if they could fly halfway around the world to be at Paisley on a Friday night for a Party. People if ever there comes a time "HE" does open Paisley for partys again "PLEASE" show your gratitude and respect let him know how much U like being in his House, OK...Detroit, Chicago (and I'm sure in other cities too) we partied our ass's off to his music and to be in the Man's House doing it "Priceless"

Well, a friend of mine, heard from another friend of ours that lives in Mn, that Prince isnot giving Friday nite parties because Larry told Prince something to the effect that Friday nite parties arenot part of his 'job', as those idiots call it.

He isnot supposed to have a lot to do with people that arenot of the JW faith, if you want to call it that.

I'd give anything if we could have Friday nite parties again.

If it comes down to not even having a celebration, We should meet up there and have our own party and gather with our signs shouting We want the funk, We want the funk.

I posted this on another thread a while back.
