IstenSzek's Prince House/Trance album :)

Delicate subject; Prince and house/techno music. It seems
most people think his attempts at it are pretty much shit
and I tend to agree.

However, taken off the albums they come from and put all
together on the same album, it is actually not half as
bad as it seems. I guess most of those songs just sound
out of place on his other albums.

I made this cdr last night just to see how goofy it might
sound. But I quite like it.

Makes me wonder what that proposed 1995/1996 techno album
might have sounded like.

01. Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic
02. New World
03. The Human Body
04. Hot Wit U [ahdio remix]
05. Strange But True
06. Come [electronic mix]
07. Beautiful
08. Ethereal Mix**
09. Come On [hyper mix]
10. High
11. Get Loose
12. Hypno Paradise
13. Get Wild [house mix]
14. Sex Me Baby Sex Me Not

** = from the Cream maxi single. still sounds like the
best attempt he ever did at "house/trance/techno" music
or whatever the heck you'd like to call it.

Anything else I forgot to include???

Ah yes, I'd completely forgotten about that one, that's
a nice one to include on the album too.

I'll see where I can fit it in on a WinAmp playlist.

yeah, i know that it's the same exact rap, but for some reason, tony m. sounds a lot better in this version... i think it's the way his rapping meshes with the musical background...

i've always thought that prince did a good job at house/trance/tecnhoy stuff... it's music that's made for the dancefloor, and prince does specialize in that... nod...

Well, I know, but it's just a bit strange that he's such
an enormous genius and so good at all other styles and
yet somehow he always makes a bit of a silly sausage of
himself when he does house/techno.

Having said that, I don't think it's like he can't do it
I think it's more like he WON'T do it. It seems like he
only wants to make this kind of music using his regular
soundfx and instruments.

Which in itself it a great idea, but I just don't think
it works when he does it.

I mean, "idioteque", "kinetic", "pulk/pull revolving doors"
and "fasttrack" to name a few, were all made with purely
analogue equipment and all their regular instruments and
yet Radiohead manage to make them sound as if they're what
the future of dance/house/techno will sound like 50 years
from now.

Perhaps Prince just doesn't go dark and depressing enough.
He always keeps it a bit light and joyful.

hmmm, so this mix actually sounds good? maybe i'll have to try it...cos most of the songs you've included I liked at one point, but they make me cringe now...

In my dream-world, Prince would create a dance cd WITH Basement Jaxx...I think they do "Prince House/Techno/Trance" much better than Prince ever has...

I think that's because he's a musician in the traditional sense of the word. It's just not a natural thing for him to do i think, that's all.

Which in itself it a great idea, but I just don't think

It wouldn't work, he would pick up his guitar after a short while wink But listen to some 8ties Prince dance records and u hear the electro and disco influences, it's not that he hasn't done it! Records like Sexy Dancer/Erotic City were big hits in the mid-8ties house clubs in Chicago, really.

Prince has used some dark sounds but it's not his trademark sound, he's from Minneapolis, not suburban Chicago NY or Detroit lol

Basement Jaxx's album sleeve of Rooty has the same style as the 1999 sleeve doesn't it?

That's not a coincidence u know, they are influenced by it, also the music, they love Prince!
