My "Parade" documentary might be submitted for an award :)

Hey all,

Heard some exciting news the other day. My "Parade" documentary that I made for XFM earlier this year (click here to listen) might be getting submitted by XFM for a Sony Radio Award (The Oscars/Grammys of the radio industry). The head of XFM was very happy with it and it did great in their listening figures too.

Obviously that doesn't necessarily mean we'll get nominated for anything, let alone win, but to have the support of XFM is really cool - as you only get a limited amount of submissions from the entire year of broadcasted content.

Also - a compilation of the best bits from the entire series that it was part of (called "25", exploring classic albums from 1986) will be broadcast on XFM on Christmas Day, in the evening. It'll be two hours long and hopefully a really good summary of so many great albums that we were able to cover in the series.

Full list of albums we covered in the series:

January - Metallica's "Master of Puppets"

February - Public Image Ltd's "Album"

March - Depeche Mode's "Black Celebration"

April - Prince & The Revolution's "Parade"

May - REM's "Life's Rich Pageant"

June - The Smiths' "The Queen Is Dead"

July - Run DMC's "Raising Hell"

August - Billy Bragg's "Talking With The Taxman About Poetry"

September - New Order's "Brotherhood"

October - Talk Talk's "The Colour Of Spring"

November - Beastie Boys' "Licensed To Ill"

December - Compilation to be aired on Xmas Day

All are available to listen to here.

For the truly hardcore, there's an extra 30 minutes that were cut from the Prince documentary available here.

Hope everybody has a great Xmas smile

Had the time to listen to it bro! It was so good! You had so many people give a perfect scope on "Parade" I had to play it again, so I can get a broader love for this fantastic album! You should win the award! The editing was perfect, and everyone shared what they needed too to give it exactly the flow. I was surprised to hear from Dr.Fink! He shared a lot of information, I was completely unaware of. I am going to have to check out the 30 minute section you cut off. Haha.

as a constructive crit i would probably have omitted bill oddie

yes we know he digs Prince but he holds zero musical props/gravity despite me loving me hearing his stories

i just think as Parade is in my humble the the THE greatest album of all time it would have been nce to hear other musicians talk of this album

Loved the mojo sample-best interview ever

In the 1960s and early 1970s, Oddie released a number of singles and at least one album. One of the former, issued in 1970 on John Peel'sDandelion Records label (Catalogue No: 4786), was On Ilkla Moor Baht 'at,[13] performed in the style of Joe Cocker's With a Little Help from my Friends. The B-side, Harry Krishna, featured the Hare Krishna chant, substituting the names of contemporary famous people called Harry, including Harry Secombe, Harry Worth, Harry Lauder, and Harry Corbett, as well as puns such as "Harry [Hurry] along now", "Harrystotle [Aristotle]" and ending with "Harry-ly [I really] must go now". Both tracks appear on the compilation CD Life Too, Has Surface Noise: The Complete Dandelion Records Singles Collection 1969–1972 (2007).

He played the drums and saxophone and appeared as Cousin Kevin in a production of The Who's rock opera Tommy at the Rainbow Theatre,Finsbury Park, London on 9 December 1972. He has also contributed vocals to a Rick Wakeman album, Criminal Record.

Oddie took part in the English National Opera production of the Gilbert and Sullivan comic opera The Mikado, in which he appeared in the role of the "Lord High Executioner", taking over the role from Eric Idle. During the early 1990s, Oddie was a DJ for London-based jazz radio station102.2 Jazz FM, but was dismissed after criticising the management on air after they told him he was playing too much jazz on his show.[citation needed]

In 2007 Oddie appeared on the BBC series Play It Again.[14] In the episode he attempts to realise his dream of becoming a rock guitarist. Initially teacher Bridget Mermikides tries to teach him using traditional methods but he rebels: instead he turns to old friends Albert Lee, Dave Davies (of The Kinks) and Mark Knopfler for advice and strikes out on his own. He succeeds in the target of playing lead guitar for his daughter Rosie's band at her 21st birthday party, and even manages to impress his erstwhile teacher.

In November 2010, he agreed, along with fellow members of The Goodies, to re-release their 1970s hit The Funky Gibbon to raise funds for the International Primate Protection League's Save the Gibbon appeal.

Plus he got to Number 4 alond with The Goodies on the 12/4/75.

So what's your critic qualifcations then???

Wait, so nothing's even been nominated for anything, but just liked by the station? Was this even thread worthy, or just an excuse to advertise for this doc project you did (a bump of your old thread, if you will) again? I mean, I don't get it. Not trying to be "mean" here, but where's the news? confused
