Wait, so nothing's even been nominated for anything, but just liked by the station? Was this even thread worthy, or just an excuse to advertise for this doc project you did (a bump of your old thread, if you will) again? I mean, I don't get it. Not trying to be "mean" here, but where's the news? confused

Thread worthiness means little to most orgers.

Would you prefer a post that contains interesting content? or "AT 53 PRINCE CAN STILL GET IT"

Yeah, relax.

as a constructive crit i would probably have omitted bill oddie

yes we know he digs Prince but he holds zero musical props/gravity despite me loving me hearing his stories

i just think as Parade is in my humble the the THE greatest album of all time it would have been nce to hear other musicians talk of this album

Loved the mojo sample-best interview ever

In the 1960s and early 1970s, Oddie released a number of singles and at least one album. One of the former, issued in 1970 on John Peel'sDandelion Records label (Catalogue No: 4786), was On Ilkla Moor Baht 'at,[13] performed in the style of Joe Cocker's With a Little Help from my Friends. The B-side, Harry Krishna, featured the Hare Krishna chant, substituting the names of contemporary famous people called Harry, including Harry Secombe, Harry Worth, Harry Lauder, and Harry Corbett, as well as puns such as "Harry [Hurry] along now", "Harrystotle [Aristotle]" and ending with "Harry-ly [I really] must go now". Both tracks appear on the compilation CD Life Too, Has Surface Noise: The Complete Dandelion Records Singles Collection 1969–1972 (2007).

He played the drums and saxophone and appeared as Cousin Kevin in a production of The Who's rock opera Tommy at the Rainbow Theatre,Finsbury Park, London on 9 December 1972. He has also contributed vocals to a Rick Wakeman album, Criminal Record.

Oddie took part in the English National Opera production of the Gilbert and Sullivan comic opera The Mikado, in which he appeared in the role of the "Lord High Executioner", taking over the role from Eric Idle. During the early 1990s, Oddie was a DJ for London-based jazz radio station102.2 Jazz FM, but was dismissed after criticising the management on air after they told him he was playing too much jazz on his show.[citation needed]

In 2007 Oddie appeared on the BBC series Play It Again.[14] In the episode he attempts to realise his dream of becoming a rock guitarist. Initially teacher Bridget Mermikides tries to teach him using traditional methods but he rebels: instead he turns to old friends Albert Lee, Dave Davies (of The Kinks) and Mark Knopfler for advice and strikes out on his own. He succeeds in the target of playing lead guitar for his daughter Rosie's band at her 21st birthday party, and even manages to impress his erstwhile teacher.

In November 2010, he agreed, along with fellow members of The Goodies, to re-release their 1970s hit The Funky Gibbon to raise funds for the International Primate Protection League's Save the Gibbon appeal.

Plus he got to Number 4 alond with The Goodies on the 12/4/75.

So what's your critic qualifcations then???

I've never heard of him, and I doubt I know anyone who's heard of him. He's apparently not a very mainstream popular person, I think that's all he meant, even if he said it a harsh and exagerated way "!!!"

That was a thoroughly enjoyable listen. Really, well done.

It isn't a criticism, it's a request... if you have a song by song analysis of Parade by that Birmingham Uni bloke, I would LOVE to hear that... I had never, in 25 years of listening to that album, considered his drums position before... and now all I can think of is drums at the start of each song... apart from Sometimes and Venus - though many argue that the piano is a percussion instrument - and that's what helps Sometimes and out on the album. Genius.

At least I think it is... I can't get to a copy of the album at the moment and my memory is playing tricks with regards how many of the start with drums.... Under The Cherry Moon? Hey ho.

If you have those recordxing, please could you leave them in a brown paper envelope under a bench in a park, please?

You know when Brett Thingy, from Suede, talks about the nature of Prince's songs... i.e. the repetitive nature... and how they don't become tiresome and are examples of timeless pop... Do you think he is talking about the 'potential' of Prince's songs? Listening to some of the stuff that's on the channel that doesn't speak it's name and listening to some of the rehearsal stuff that's been out for a few year's now... the repetitive nature of prince's songs suggest so much potential that you make up what's coming next/imagine what could possibly come next/thrill at what could come next that you hng on his every beat. Prince's songs, especially in the 80s, were so vital, so engaging and so challenging you waited until the very last fade before you turned the 12" over on thr turntable... it's a liottle like those that hang around when the lights come up at a concert now... you know something is about to occur, you're just not sure what and when and how and to what extent....

that's what I think

Again, thanks all. Really appreciate all the support. It really means a lot to me that people here enjoyed it because I wanted to get that balance between something fans can enjoy and something that people who may know nothing about Prince could enjoy too, and I think that's what was achieved.

Simon - every person involved in the documentary was interviewed at length and chopped to the best bits. For example - I've got an hour (at least) of Dr. Fink talking, and of course many stories extended outside of "Parade" so weren't included for those reasons but are still really awesome to hear. Same with Brent and Clare, Bobby Friction, even myself.

With regards to Dr Simon Barber, I can absolutely find out. He teaches at BCU (Birmingham City University) and is a good friend of Sam, who produced the entire "25" series. He didn't do an analysis of the whole album - but there is some more material there (I think - we recorded everything back in March so I need to go back through everything that wasn't used to be exactly sure what we're sitting on). But it's a goldmine of cool info that I want to do "something" with... I'm just still figuring out how to approach it - now that the series is over, I can start planning it in January.

Yeah, but the thing is he hasn't been recognized with shit yet. It said it MIGHT be submitted just for a nomination, which still doesn't mean it won anything. It just seems to be a not-so-subtle advertisement for more hits or listeners to this show. Someone's got an ego... razz
