That would be awesome... it would be a major improvement on his current guitar player.

Jay are you crazy
Prince plays great rhythm guitar ,great solos and he is a beast on guitar.
Jesse is cool player but not in Prince's league.
Jesse's soloing in more rooted in classical blues cliche's while Prince is more sophisticated. To tell you the truth when you're acomplished guitar player what makes you a standout guitar player is your ability to compose better solos then other players and i think Prince's solos are much better composed and memorable. Jesse's solos are more about flash ,btw i love Jesse but Jesse wouldn't fit Prince's sound.

Jesse Johnson is great, but THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL that he is anywhere near as good as Prince! I wish folks would stop trying to make it seem that way.

It would be cool to see, but I think their egos would get in the way of it ever coming to fruition. Prince would try to out play Jesse and Jesse would try to out play Prince at every turn. Prince would light that ass up, but Jesse would hold his own. __________________________________________________

If he got that hair did (activator please) and didn't quit one week into the tour..it'd be hot "Climb in my fur."

I don't disagree Banishedone... not one bit with anything you've shared here.
I kinda liked it when Prince used to play rhythm and solo parts every once in a while during his shows - I like the MC version of Prince where he's doing a lot of singing and dancing and crowd work.
All things aside, Prince is so damn good at so many things that it's hard to pinpoint just exactly what I enjoy about it all.

'how would it be if Jesse Johnson joined Prince's touring band??'
I think that would be an excellent idea! Jesse already was practically a member of Prince band by being in The Time during the Controversy & 1999 tours . Since Prince rehearsed them 6 hours every day. so it wouldn't be much difference. Prince practically groomed jesse 2 b a super star. Words out of Jesse's own mouth.

Yeah right. I like Jesse, but Prince needs that headache? I don't think so. Besides, Prince is crazy and diva enough to comfortably take the place of Kim Jong Il of North Korea without anyone noticing. Why would want to chance someone crowding his style?

Maybe Jay was comparing Jesse to Andy not Prince himself...

Ohhhh, nice idea, but that would never work. There is barely enough for Jesse to do in The Time as the only guitar. He would be bored to tears playing second guitar to Prince. Everytime Prince took a solo Jesse would be in the back, mean mugging him, thinking "I can play better than that."

I don't think anyone made it seem that way as far as this thread is concerned, I don't think Jesse playing with Prince means Jesse has to be as good as Prince The added layer of guitar to me takes the quality up.
When he played the Beautiful Ones in the last few years the lack of rock guitar just made the song sound flat, and nothing the ballet dancer did could fill that void
There are certain songs that just need that extra guitar muscle

Why did you think he was comparing Jesse with Prince, he was saying Jesse would be a major improvement 2 Andy Allo

Man so many begginer guitar players would be better then andy.andy is totaly useless on guitar.don't expect andy to play double guitar lines on computer ble anytime soon

If that was to happen, Prince would always have to have a back-up guitar player on board at all times, seeing how Jesse now will be known for quitting without advanced notice to fans. It just wouldn't work no matter how good Jesse's guitar playing is. Jesse did say he was a loner apparently not feeling fulfilled playing within a group. If you're in a band, your bandmates rely on you to be there. If you have someone in your band, who can 'F' the game up at any minute, you always have to be 2 steps ahead of them with a plan 'B' and 'C'.
I appears Jesse wants to be able to be a standout guitar player 'shining his guitar-playing skills in the light, ' and hoping to become as successful as musicians/performers, such as Prince, Santana, and others who have achieved their success/fame through hard work and patience. Jesse just needs to find a way to do that, if he desires to reach that level. [Edited 12/22/11 10:50am]

Jesse never quit the Time until it was evident that the band wasn't going anywhere, since Morris Day was done during the PR era.
If Prince on maybe 3-4 songs an album let the band record he would have had a better chemistry You can't punk men around and expect the best
Jesse as far as I know was very dedicated to the band. Prince kept to much of a tight hold on them. These guys no matter the circumstances believed in Prince and what he was doing then
I think that's why the 1999 Triple Threat era was so hot Prince & the noituloveR + Jill Jones Vanity 6 & the Time was really for what was happening.
Prince made a big mistake in firing Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis

I thought Morris heard about Jesse's pending record deal before he decided to leave himself. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Morris was done when Prince fired Jimmy & Terry, he said it changed the chemistry of the band and it was not the same anymore

The line-up of THE TIME finally underwent some more changes. [Monte Moir] made the decision to leave the band when he heard, that [Jimmy Jam] and [Terry Lewis] had been let go by Prince. [Terry Lewis] was replaced on bass by [Rocky Harris], a local musician who knew [Jesse Johnson]. The replacements for [Jimmy Jam] and [Monte Moir] on keyboards were found in [Paul Peterson], a member of Twin-Cities first family in jazz and [Mark Cardenas], a Los Angeles native, who had been working in jazz-rock fusion circles in Minneapolis a few years before.
On 8th June 1984, THE TIME, led by [Jesse Johnson], performed Jungle love live on the 3rd annual Minnesota Black Music Awards at the Prom Center in St. Paul. [Morris Day] wasn't present at this event and his conspicuous absence sparked rumors, that THE TIME had broken up.

IF and only if we ignore the egos, politics and emotions that would never let this idea happen, it COULD be interesting.
All of Prince's guitarists have more a funk/soul/jazz vibe -- all except Dez that is. Not saying Jesse is better but he would inject a bit of edginess like he got from Dez on the Dirty Mind, Controversy and 1999 tours that's been missing of late. Maybe an injection of conflict and tension would help too!
