I always thought it was funny when I made a tape of the album and followed it with the B-sides and the album ends with 'goodbye' and then the next song on my tape starts with 'hello'. lol
Regarding CONDITION OF THE HEART, there are some (Susan Rogers for instance) who think it is his best song. I like it but what I like is the personal lyrics. He rarely writes things that are really personal and when I hear words like "...There was a woman who made funny faces just like Clara Bow..." He is referring to Wendy because of her resemblance to Clara Bow. That is followed by: "...how was I to know that she would wear the same cologne as you and do the same giggle that you do". Prince was floored by the fact that someone he adored as much as he adored Wendy would have someone so similar to her... and he was falling in love, and he put that on a record. His meaning was hidden but much more of a public statement then he usually offered.
You can picture him sitting at the piano in the studio in the dark with a candle on his piano singing this and knowing that he was falling for someone, and offering her this song as a romantic gesture.
That is what I take away from the song. The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/ |

Thank God For ATWIAD'
Prince showed so much guts releasing this masterpiece. It showed he was not trying to follow in MJ's footsteps but his own. He never cared about sales. He still is like that today. A trendsetter.

Nice, I never thought of that, I knew the song had reference to his love for Susannah but didn't catch the other part.
This is why that album & song is so great, just so much life and living and history |

I think he is both talking about Susannah & Wendy. With that line "...how was I to know that she would wear the same cologne as you and do the same giggle that you do". will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"!
