Remakes/Rerecordings

After hearing about Extraloveable 2011, I was wondering... How many songs has Prince remade that we know of? (released and nonreleased). I mostly wanna include his own songs, but covers count too.... kinda.

(studio versions, not live). smile

Any1 know how many? smile Thanx!

I guess it depends how you define remakes and are you differing from alternate versions and re-mixes. For example, was The Most Beautiful Girl remade several times?

One for the definitely remade list though is Sexy MF.

RIP sad

1984, 1985, 1986. The released versions are all updates.

Web stream from 2009. It wasn't released, physically or for download.

As Nouveau pointed out, it was not released. However, it's easy enough to obtain the track. It's on disc 1 of the Eye release Lotus Box and is probably on others, one of Sabs Sound & Vision releases for instance.

Or if you just want the track on it's own, then that is probably easier than opening a jam jar.

i am pretty sure he did a remake of KISS .. he used it as a costume change filler at the celebration tour .. sounded pretty good over the pa .. it was around the time that he was claiming to have rerecorded all his wb songs and there was a rumour he would at least release a greatest hits with all rerecorded versions of his old songs .. i think the only one he actually released was 1999 tho ..

In the 1990's he rerecorded every song he released on WB. I don't think much is known about the specifics. Several, including "Soft & Wet", were rerecorded in 1998/1999 with input by Morris Hayes.

The album version of "Come" was a complete remake/remix of the version of "Come" he had been developing (the one heard in the tv special).

"Tick Tick Bang" was a complete remake in the released version.

"Old Friends 4 Sale" was completely remade on the released version.

You know he's probably here fishing for ideas. He could have his minions making threads, asking for the fan's opinions so he can try to give his fans what they want. Then again, maybe not since I keep reading how he does what he wants to do.

...bing ain't lie.

Purple Medley count too? There's sampled/old stuff, but lots of newly recorded too.

Oh, and remember the whole 'new masters' project from 99/2000 - It was said that it was completed, so...... No, no, it's just all too horrible to think about, oh the humanity!

As much as I love Purple Medley (especially the fact that he included Love Bizarre, in essence saying "yeah, it's mine"), I would not want a complete re-recorded catalog in that style.

Remember the video for Purple Medley? It's just him in front of the screen, no band or instruments, and I believe wearing the sign language shirt?

Prince did a number of remakes in the 1990's - including of "Sacrifice of Victor," "Something in the Water....," and "Continental."

I really love that segment of "A Love Bizarre" in it, though. Would be cool if there was a full-length version.

Wrong. The "Extralovable 2011 (yay or nay)" thread, the majority said otherwise.

I took the tally.

So there.

Yeah, because that two-week thread included EVERY Prince fan known to man's thoughts on the subject rolleyes , which was just asking about that particular song and not lifeless remakes period, which is what FF was referring to (though we ALL know Extraloveable 2011 fits into that category right nicely).

FF, I feel you, my brother! No more of the plastic, lifeless, soul-less bullshit!!
