What cover tune would you like to see Prince do? I always thought Prince did good cover songs; so this was my idea for a thread.
My picks would be: Joni Mitchell's Help Me, Stevie Wonder's It It's Magic; Ribbon In The Sky; Living Colour's Love Rears Up It's Ugly Head; Donny Hathaway's Someday, We Will All Be Free; TTD's Wishing Well; Michael Jackson's Dirty Diana; Etta James, At Last; Van Halen's Dance The Night Away; Smokey Robinson's ohhh, Baby Baby; James Brown's It's A Man's World...That's enuff. lol All you others say Hell Yea!!

Sorry, but I really hope Prince never does another cover. Why?
Everyday Is A Winding Road La La La...Means I Love You I Can't Make You Love Me None of these were an improvement IMHO and they somehow didn't sound "believable" coming from him. I can't really put it into words better than that, but they just never clicked for me. The only cover I have somewhat liked was One of Us, but only for the guitar. I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

Ray of Light -- Madonna
Is it a Crime? -- Sade I'm a cover whore -- I like to listen to covers songs in general, though I agree much of Prince's recorded covers leave me wanting. I'm not so much interested in it being done "better," just differently. "A Case of U" is a definite high point in covers. ROFL!! Yea that, Ray of Light, Wishing Well & Dirty Diana blew my fucking head off I would be mortified for him if he did these - some songs need to stay where the fuck they are, IN THE PAST... Diana edit, forgot that one... [This message was edited Tue Feb 18 7:01:22 PST 2003 by CalhounSq]

Dirty Diana is a great song for Mike and is about as 'nasty' as Mike gets but it's totally unsuited to Prince though, who as we know, has always been far nastier and dirty. Until the recent 'conversion' anyway.

THANK YOU, Marrk Some of these suggestions are horrifying!! One of the remixes of Ray of Light has a heavy guitar line throughout. I'd love to hear what'd he'd do with it. And I'm sure he'd tweak the vocal, which as he's shown with covers, is hit or miss. I'm definitely not interested in a studio version of Whole Lotta Love. I heard one Celebration version and heard it in Vegas -- I think it's awful. Just his vocal -- the music was great, his falsetto made it sound like a high school cover band. Ick! http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

I agree with you on two of the three. But Prince's work with the instrustments was enough to make I Can't Make you Love me Work. But he isn't a very good cover artist ya know I think he is just too original to make it work. I would however like to hear him the O Jay's "For the Love of Money" Imagine what he who do with that bassline.
