I always thought Prince did good cover songs; so this was my idea for a thread.

My picks would be:

Joni Mitchell's Help Me, Stevie Wonder's It It's Magic; Ribbon In The Sky; Living Colour's Love Rears Up It's Ugly Head; Donny Hathaway's Someday, We Will All Be Free; TTD's Wishing Well; Michael Jackson's Dirty Diana; Etta James, At Last; Van Halen's Dance The Night Away; Smokey Robinson's ohhh, Baby Baby; James Brown's It's A Man's World...That's enuff. lol

Sorry, but I really hope Prince never does another cover. Why?

None of these were an improvement IMHO and they somehow didn't sound "believable" coming from him. I can't really put it into words better than that, but they just never clicked for me.

The only cover I have somewhat liked was One of Us, but only for the guitar.

I'm a cover whore -- I like to listen to covers songs in general, though I agree much of Prince's recorded covers leave me wanting. I'm not so much interested in it being done "better," just differently. "A Case of U" is a definite high point in covers.

One of the remixes of Ray of Light has a heavy guitar line throughout. I'd love to hear what'd he'd do with it. And I'm sure he'd tweak the vocal, which as he's shown with covers, is hit or miss. I'm definitely not interested in a studio version of Whole Lotta Love. I heard one Celebration version and heard it in Vegas -- I think it's awful. Just his vocal -- the music was great, his falsetto made it sound like a high school cover band. Ick!
