The vocals to the old version are muddled, but sound like he's belting them out in a fit of passion, the new version sounds like he's out of time with his band and stumbling on the lyrics. (imo)

I liked the slowed down version of I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man he did at the 2002 Xenophobia Celebration... but what do I know

YOU NEED TO GET YOUR EARS CHECKED!!! WAHHHHH! YOU THINK MY VERSION IS WORSE! WAHHHHHH!!!
YOU'RE CRAZY! YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE AN OPINION! WAHHHHHH! WAHHHH!
Okay, now that we have that out of the way...
I like the 2011 version better. Like somebody else said, lose the Andy Allo rap, but, yeah, I like this version much better. "I never want to stop singing this song!" Prince in Montreal, 12/2/11, just before performing Purple Rain

aren't the vocals muddled because the quality is low? "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

to me the new version is absolutely CRAP.
Prince is lost in the funk-wilderness........
his genius craft is gone.... Prince 4Ever.

You can't hit a home run every time. Sometimes you just hit the ball.
Bad analogy, I know, but it makes sense to me, anyway. "I never want to stop singing this song!" Prince in Montreal, 12/2/11, just before performing Purple Rain

I can hear Jerome's voice saying, "That was fucked up what you did man. Morris doesn't like it, and I don't like it either." RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

THAT! That exactly. Get used to it. With Prince, religion comes first. Like it or not.
But that's the best answer I've seen on this topic. "I never want to stop singing this song!" Prince in Montreal, 12/2/11, just before performing Purple Rain

The "On The Verge Of Rape" in the Bootleg version, has made me give more appreciation for the newer version. That line just throws me off each time, and is too far for my taste. He just went OVERBOARD WITH THAT.
The newer version is clean, and sounds fresh in my ears. However, he did say, that he recorded 3 versions of this song, and that they would all eventually be released. HOWEVER; I'm not holding myself to that statement. Hahaha, BUT if he does..I sure hope it adds much guitar and SCRATCH the rap!
Nevertheless, it's fantastic! It's Button Therapy, Baby!

i'm AGREE with u 100000% I don't. People who knew him back then described him as insecure, paranoid even and scared of life in general. Not my words! I'm sure he's happier now. And more "free", whatever that means.

I don't mean to be a brash and self-righteous bitch, but I don't really understand why you people find the original to be funkier than this new one. To me, funk consists of non-distorted, chicken grease guitar work, vibrato-heavy synths, and either a keyboard or slap style for the bassline. The original used the whole "everything plays the same part at the same time" approach to arrangement that Prince was such a crack whore for back in the day. Don't get me wrong. The original is awesome as well, and the lead guitar work is far superior to that of the '11 release, but the overall feel is somewhat typical for 80's dance-pop, while this new one harkens back to the likes of Funkadelic. Also, I'm a sucker for tight harmonies, which are more noticeably present in the 2011 version than the bootleg.
I like both of them equally, largely due to the fact that they're both so hard to compare due to their contrasts. I honestly look at these two as completely different approaches to the song, which I find to be more respectable than anything.
The original was more dangerous, aggressive, and terrifying. This effect is quite remarkable, especially considering his ability to soothe one with tracks like "Condition of the Heart" or "U're Gonna C Me." But honestly, this feel doesn't necessarily match the content of the hook's lyrics; the only shower I can think of this side of Prince giving me is that of holding a firetruck's hose to my face as he screams "EAT IT, BITCH!" This is arousing in its own disturbing way, not unlike the desire that some have to get with the "bad boy." You know, the type of man that turns you on but also makes you fear that your relationship will end with you stuffed in a body bag, rolled into the trunk of his Corvette, and pushed off of a cliff into your watery grave.
This new one, however, is moreso sultry and moan worthy than terrifyingly orgasmic (excluding the turn-off that the sexual reference to innocent, brightly colored children's shows induces). It's the kind of musical love-making that people like me are more likely to submit to. Sure, it's on top of you, but it doesn't necessarily scare the shit out of you. It's more relaxed, slow, and erotic. This is moreso the bath that normal people take together; a bath of fragrant oils, heavy breathing, and the occasional splash of water that accidentally overflows on the marble floor. No, it's not necessarily gentle, but it won't leave any bite marks, either.
I've kind of creeped myself out now, because I'm not usually a sexually oriented person. This also sounds as though I'm fantasizing about getting with Prince, which is not the case at all. Sure, he's sexy in his own fun-sized way, but that ain't my bag. He's tiny and girly. Also, he's my parents' age, so..... I'm merely talking about having sexual relations with the music, which also sounded less creepy, bizzare, and insane in my head. Oh well. I guess I shouldn't have sniffed that dry erase marker right before I wrote this. My apologies.

^ let's disagree...
It would had been just fantastic on the Dirty Mind album (also since the DM album is only about 30 minutes/ half an hour long),
however, I can't remember when exactly Extraloveable was written, before or after DM?
But the original Extraloveable has the same simple demo-sound like the other songs on DM, right?
It's fantastic, I dislike the new version, too boring middle on the road, does not move me a bit, like the original version does. Prince 4Ever.
