OP are you new to Prince, because until recently Prince has had a string of failed official sites dating back to 1996, IIRC.

I don't think his current MIA from the internet (which isn't really since there's Andy's social media guff and the Dr.Funkenberry bum-licking) - I don't think his current MIA is to cultivate mystery it's more likely that he's burned out on official sites, or out of ideas for rip-off subscription sites since that model doesn't really work any more (or ever really, the way Prince did it).

See, Prince having an official FB page or twitter account doesn't really make him that special does it - everyone and their Grandma has one, and they all look the same - and even having some twonk look after it for him, it still brings him down a peg or two from having his own super-magical members-only club.

right!

^ The PPML was the Paisley Park Mailing List, it was the precursor to Prince.org, but looked better in terms of design (had black and gold theme). I first found it around 96/97 and I think it ran right up until about 2001/2002 when it got replaced by prince.org.

As the internet was new in those days, it had a sense of intimacy about it which was pretty cool...

I was on the net back then but not anything to do with Prince. Those were great times on the world wide web, and I can only imagine how up close and personal it was to be on a prince themed board.

I found out about the org a couple of yrs ago. I doubt the PPML had as many fanatics harassing other members like this place. Some orgers are doing a lot of weird activity here and on FB. Prince should have something official on the web. I think it would be better and safer for his fans.

Be careful when meeting other Prince fans online bcuz there are some really sick Prince fanatics out here preying on other Prince fans, particularly good looking and beautiful women and men. If Prince does not cultivate fanatics then they are here trying to live vicariously through Prince so be aware of them and don't let anyone try to pull one over on you.

Yes, there was a really close knit, friendly kind of atmosphere which is kind of lacking now...I guess because the .org is so big now due to more internet users today, and also it was kind of exciting as the internet was new etc etc....like a new world opening up....had a kind of intimate feel to it....

Reply #45 on the following thread is another example of why I think Prince needs his own official site. http://prince.org/msg/12/...?&pg=2

Sadly, the orger 9037355 really believes as she says in her reply that, "Prince was the composer of both my avatar picture & my signature line, & he invited me here, and he will tell me when to leave."

Notice the certain orger who always seems to respond to all of the crazy fanatic's posts.

If what this girl said in her reply is true it would mean Prince deliberately cultivate fanatics and asks them to come on the org and represent him. She could be a Prince minion but I think the orger on that thread telling her she's so far gone is actually the one w/ the 10+ accounts.
