Yeah, yeah, you remind me of those Diana fanatics who claimed she use to call them up to confide in them!

Who's J anyway and what would he be doing talking to a student/pop star wannabee like you?!

Come on, have a bit more humility, you're no big shot..

I do respect Militant for having the courage to participate. I know the first step is admitting there's a problem. I think he's intelligent enough to understand where I'm coming from and why I feel the way I do. If he doesn't, it's fine w/ me.

OP are you new to Prince, because until recently Prince has had a string of failed official sites dating back to 1996, IIRC.

I don't think his current MIA from the internet (which isn't really since there's Andy's social media guff and the Dr.Funkenberry bum-licking) - I don't think his current MIA is to cultivate mystery it's more likely that he's burned out on official sites, or out of ideas for rip-off subscription sites since that model doesn't really work any more (or ever really, the way Prince did it).

See, Prince having an official FB page or twitter account doesn't really make him that special does it - everyone and their Grandma has one, and they all look the same - and even having some twonk look after it for him, it still brings him down a peg or two from having his own super-magical members-only club.

Yes, you just presenting another way to ask my question. I actually asked about 5 questions after my original question. lol Yes, they said on the documentary I watched that Prince is a prankster. He better cut that internet bullshit out. It's fucked up. He don't need to let other people speak for him. He's my favorite artist and all but Prince ain't all that. He better stop playing if he's that "sort" of fucked up person.

J is Funkenberry.

I'm not a student. I don't even have A levels. I signed to Sony BMG when I was 17 years old and I've toured the world every year since and featured on albums that have sold hundreds of thousands of records. Don't hate the player, hate the game. Also, I guest lecture at several universities to music industry students several times a year and get paid nicely for it. That's the closest I've ever been to being a student wink

No wasn't familiar w/ any of his official sites back then. He's been my favorite artist since I was a child but I wasn't checking for Prince back then. I had no clue.

He needs to realize that he can't be always just be the special one in things. I'm special! We ALL special. He needs to grow the fuck up and know how to balance both worlds. He's too out there for me. Him and super-magical members-only club better wake the hell up.

^ The PPML was the Paisley Park Mailing List, it was the precursor to Prince.org, but looked better in terms of design (had black and gold theme). I first found it around 96/97 and I think it ran right up until about 2001/2002 when it got replaced by prince.org.

As the internet was new in those days, it had a sense of intimacy about it which was pretty cool...

Not a small inprint. A major. I had an indie deal a year before that when I was 16 and sold 50,000+ records independently which led to the major deal. Sure, it's harder in 2011. This was in 2003/4. Was with Sony BMG for one album then moved over to Virgin/EMI for two albums a couple of years later. If you're interested you can look me up online. And yes, I doubt I would have got that deal so young as a solo artist. But it's as a member of a band of which my cousin is the producer, and he was already a platinum-selling producer, so I had a leg-up wink

And I was in the studio ALL day yesterday working on a new single. I come on the forums while the producers are mixing parts in between vocal takes. Make sense now? Not as if it takes a long time to make a handful of posts on a forum....

Maybe he's spending time defending Prince, bring breaking news first about Prince and his associates before other people hear about it bcuz he knows how to deal appropriately w/ Prince since he's one of Prince's peers. He has in the past likened himself to God and the pharoahs (listen to Undisputed) and this arrogance does not help.

However, he has done much in recent years to dispel that and has appeared in a more humble way on TV...etc... and told people to worship God not him.

I listened to Prince's Undisputed (The Moneyapolis mix). I didn't know Chuck D rapped on a Prince song. Now I get why he was in the BBC docu I watched. It sounds like another one of Prince's braggadocious songs to me. I didn't really care for it. In this song is he telling people that as long as he's getting ahead it's alright to get left on the sideway Jack? What? Did I hear him correctly? I know I don't want to talk to D'angelo about anything but ?uestlove seems cool although I've read he's a Prince fanatic. I guess this is why Prince mentioned his name in the song.

Yawn.

You tried to call me out. Claim I don't know what I'm talking about. I've been in the music industry literally my entire life. Which, in case you didn't know, is actually very small. Most people know each other one way or another. You tried to call me a student. I pointed out that I'm actually very far from that. My entire history is easily found online, so I don't need to "fawn" about anything.

But if you talk complete and utter bollocks by claiming I have no insight, I'm going to make it immediately obvious to everyone that you are wrong.

Furthermore - I make contemporary electro-pop/hip-hop, closer to Will.I.Am, Benny Bennassi and LMFAO than anything Prince does these days. Point being, if I was here "to cultivate fans" I'd be barking up the wrong motherfuckin' tree. I'm here because I want to talk about my favorite artist, just like everyone else. I just happen to work in the same field and therefore have more insight than people who do not. It's really not that hard to understand.

Or you know, we can go with the other explanation, I'm a purple minion. Because that makes SO much sense. rolleyes

Get your hateration in check. If you want to believe in your fantasy land that despite being in the same business, having worked with some of the same A&R people, promoters, mix engineers, label promotion staff, street teams, agents and having met and talked to many artists and musicians who've worked with Prince through being on the same bills as them at festivals all over the world, that I have "less insight" than, oh I don't know, someone here who works at a store or in a bank or is a professional scuba diver.... feel free to believe that.

But you would be living in a delusional world. I'm not here to flaunt it or anything I do. But when somebody is flagrantly wrong about something - like you were in this instance with your bizarre idea that Prince pays a blog to post about him - you will get called out and corrected. And when you get angry and defensive about being wrong, and try and make character assassinations on someone who knows a great deal more than you do, you look incredibly pathetic.

Aside from that, have a great day. And perhaps learn that being wrong about something isn't the end of the fucking world.

I think I heard him say sideway (off to the side). My ears often deceive me but I can see things clearly. Prince seems like the type who has to be in front so he probably said "sideway".

Best wishes to Militant. That's all I'm gonna say. lol

^Militant, I was just agreeing with umanbeing, there's no need to get so defensive. Who said I was wrong...you are speculating just as much as I was.

You had the chance to show some humility and admit your ignorance but you just blew it AGAIN.

The only one delusional here is you....thinking everything Prince does is perfect and claiming to know all these people in the business but spend all your day on Prince forums...

I don't believe a word of it. No wonder you like EL 2011 if your musical tastes extend to 'contemporary electro-pop/hip-hop'.

Not only do you think you are some polymath, but comparing yourself to Will.i.am as well...gosh...i've got my work cut out with you...

And I'm not a hater....I just know what Prince is capable of and when he releases crap I am honest about it....it helps in the long run, if everyone is sycophantic like you, we get more of the same...

Co-sign. I know what he's capable of and it's sad knowing what I know. Thanks for having an insightful discussion w/ me. I think this thread has come to an end.

I said you were wrong, and no I'm not speculating. I've said that repeatedly. Funkenberry has said the same thing himself. On multiple occasions. So really, what you're saying is that he's a liar now. Fine, if that's what you believe.

I don't think everything Prince does is perfect and neither do I spent "all day" on forums. Don't believe a word of it? That means nothing to me. Like I said, a 2-second google search on my name will pull up my entire professional history, so now you just look even more stupid.

I said what I do musically is closer to what Will.I.Am does than what Prince does. Which it is. I'm not "comparing" myself to him - I was addressing the point that if I was "trying to cultivate fans" this wouldn't be the best place. Besides, I've been active on here since at least a couple of years before I even had a deal.

So enough with the bitterness and hateration, it's laughably transparent. Oh - and as I write this - I'm in the studio once again, with a multi-platinum producer, writing songs for a major label. Want a TwitPic? Quick video clip perhaps? lol

Get off my nutsack, you complete ignoramus.
