I'd say it was about right.

They're some amazing guitarists that Prince is beating o the list.

I find it strange that Joe Satriani didn't make the top 100.

Jimmy and Eddie the best two for me.
slash should be slightly above 65, in the top 30.
Gary Moore should be somewhere in the list.
Prince place fair enough.

Yeah I thought Gary Moore would have been on it too.

Did they have Satriani or Vai on the list? I am not a huge fan of either but no one can deny their talent or influence and its strange that they dont seem to be on there. Is Wes Montgomery on there?

Saw Satch a couple of years ago. Even my wife enjoyed it. It's because unlike (nearly all) other shredders he has harmony and melody. Wouldn't really class him as a shredder though. He can play like that but chooses not to.

His mastery of the electric guitar is unquestionable though. Where was Mr May?

The again it says "great" not "best", "progressive", "harmonious", "technical" and so on.

Surely, Prince's solo on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is what finally got Rolling Stone to take notice.

Since Prince usually doesn't play stuff thats complicated, i think he would need some serious practice. Especially that tapping part. I dont think Prince practices two handed tapping and he would need to do that in order to play satch boogie.

Yes! Was not expecting to see Dance On to get a mention.

I'm not much for guitar polls but any poll with JIMI in the top spot is a welcome change. It looks like they were considering artistry, influence etc.., (which is fine) because Scotty Moore (Elvis' guitarist) technically wouldn't make the cut.

Prince should be higher on the list even on range alone.

There aren't many guitarists on that list adept in so many different genres.

I agree with that.

Some of his greatest playing is indeed happening 'in the background'. You have to listen to some of his songs on which that happens several times to realise how great a player he actually is.

The guitar work 'in the background' on a song like Positivity is simply breathtaking, and even a song that seems to be 'loathed' on the org, like Graffiti Bridge, has splendid guitar playing in the background.

It certainly is - after much prior cajoling I managed to get the organist at my wedding to play it (he couldn't see how it would work on the organ) as we walked back down the aisle and out of the church. I wanted to stick around and listen to see how far he got mimicking the guitar lead but duties meant I had to do groom stuff...

Anyway, these guitar lists do the rounds all the time and I was already wondering why I bothered with Rolling Stone when I got this issue. And- no Satch - that was my first 'search'. Boo.
